When the votes came in, Amy Klobuchar clobbered Republican Senate candidate Mark Kennedy, winning by a significant margin. Looking back, it wasn’t the race that was tough as much as it was the woman running. And Klobuchar, as a former district attorney, finds herself in good company.
more insideFrom our sister site Colorado Confidential, reporter Jason Bane takes a detailed look at the role “toughness” played in the 2006 elections, noting that there “were 44 Democrats elected to either the U.S. Senate or as governor in 2006, and of those 44 nearly half were former prosecutors.” Add in the number of candidates who were also sheriffs, military veterans and other law and order types, and the number continues to expand.
The majority of these candidates, due to their backgrounds, became synonymous with the word “tough” in their media profiles.
Need proof? According to Bane, “Google ‘Klobuchar’ and ‘tough’ and you come up with thousands of hits.”
34,800 hits, to be exact.

But name an actual, tough stand that she took on any issue Well, Amy’s media profile may be tough, but sheesh, please name any specific stand she took on any issue that could be called “tough.”
This is a candidate who spent months trying to figure out whether she was for or against the war. Instead she made statements like “I support our troops.”
I voted for Amy over Mark Kennedy. But man, she’s like our local version of Hillary Clinton. Cautious, Careful. Ready to triangulate a the drop of a hat. Consistently ducking the war issue. Her statements are mostly mush and come across as old canned stuff.
I hope she grows in office, but so far, put me down as supremely underwhelemed.
