When the votes came in, Amy Klobuchar clobbered Republican Senate candidate Mark Kennedy, winning by a significant margin.  Looking back, it wasn’t the race that was tough as much as it was the woman running.  And Klobuchar, as a former district attorney, finds herself in good company.

more insideFrom our sister site Colorado Confidential, reporter Jason Bane takes a detailed look at the role “toughness” played in the 2006 elections, noting that there “were 44 Democrats elected to either the U.S. Senate or as governor in 2006, and of those 44 nearly half were former prosecutors.”  Add in the number of candidates who were also sheriffs, military veterans and other law and order types, and the number continues to expand.

The majority of these candidates, due to their backgrounds, became synonymous with the word “tough” in their media profiles.
