Religious Right Watch: Gays caused Wall Street troubles, Obama still the anti-Christ

According to Tony Perkins and others, Wall Street is bullish on gays--and that's what caused the financial crisis.

According to Tony Perkins and others, Wall Street is bullish on gays--and that's what caused the financial crisis.

In this week’s religious right watch: Social conservatives blame purportedly gay-friendly companies for the troubles on Wall Street, a southern mayor can’t decide whether Obama is the anti-Christ and a Minnesota man lectures community on the evils of drag queens.

While Democrats and Republicans blame each other for the current economic mess and economists blame too little or too much regulation in securities markets, more than a few religious right leaders are blaming that perennial economy wrecker, homosexuality.

“Companies that promoted anti-family policies have learned the hard way that such policies are bankrupt,” said Mathew Staver, dean of the late Jerry Falwell’s Liberty University School of Law. “K-Mart learned its lesson several years ago. Washington Mutual and Wachovia, both of which actively promoted the homosexual agenda, have come to realize that anti-family policies will bankrupt the bottom line.”

Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council blamed the lack of family values for the meltdown. “As there’s a breakdown in the family and the family weakens, it’s only logical it will hit Wall Street,” Perkins said. “A nation cannot be strong just because of a financial structure alone. It has to have strong families and values.”

Mayor wants to know: Is Obama the anti-Christ?

The mayor of Fort Mill, S.C., got spammed by an email chain claiming that Sen. Barack Obama was the anti-Christ. Instead of ignoring the email, Mayor Danny Funderburk forwarded it along.

“I was just curious if there was any validity to it,” Funderburk told the Charlotte Observer. “I was trying to get documentation if there was any scripture to back it up.” Is Obama the anti-Christ? “I’ve got absolutely no way of knowing that,” he replied.

“I am curious about current events and their connection to the Bible,” he said.

But Funderbunk is not alone. CNN’s Glenn Beck asked a similar question in March. To be fair, Beck also speculated on President Bill Clinton’s and Sen. Hillary Clinton’s possible allegiance to Satan.

Do drag queens go to hell?

A homecoming pep rally at a Fairmont, Minn., high school had some upset when male students dressed in female clothes.

I was more appalled than shocked to see the front page of Thursday’s Sentinel with a picture of male high school students dancing around in girls’ clothing.

Please, whoever the school officials are who allowed this homecoming event, please put a stop to it. Repent and turn to Jesus Christ for salvation and/or forgiveness. Sin is sin, and it is always wrong.

I implore fathers with daughters, are these the kind of young men you want dating your daughters? I implore the surrounding communities, are these the kind of morals, or lack thereof, that we want public schools teaching children? In pursuing the American dream, have we become such a post-necessity culture that we’ve forgotten the reason for our existence?

Revelation 4:11 states that we exist only for God’s pleasure. Please, you young boys, turn your back on sinful living and turn to Christ. My heart is grieved for America, and I fear that, like the rebellious people of Israel at Mount Sinai, we will soon be made to drink our golden calf. How much longer will God be merciful and withhold His hand of judgment from our nation? God says that all nations that forget Him will be turned into Hell.

I live in Fort Mill, supported and voted for Danny Funderburk. To be honest, I had no idea Danny was this ignorant. I am a Christian, as Danny professes to be, and I know that we Christians are not supposed to pass off rumors.

I also know that the Koran was written centuries after the death of Christ, so it is obvious to anyone with even a little bit of Christian education that the book of Revalations could not reference Islam in any way.

Danny has proven his incompetence in this case, but more worrying to me is his lack of ethics. To see what I mean, just Google “Ken Starnes”. Starnes lived miles outside the town limits for close to a year and may still live in another city, but Funderburk was happy to let Starnes continue to serve on the town council of a city he did not live in.

During the dark ages in Europe a mad religious “elite” drove people to turn on each other. Accidents, natural disasters, illnesses and much more was pinned on hundreds of thousands of unfortunate people who ended up in the torture chambers of this huge enterprise called church. Here were are, centuries later, and we have people publicly talking again about “satanic” influences in everyday life, looking to “swiftgoat” those they disagree with. It’s incredibly sad to have to draw parallels to one of the darkest ages in humanity, but religion sometimes seems to bring out the worst in people. It is used as a weapon, a shield, or to justify unjust actions. Politics and religion have always been like water and oil, it has never been a good mix. There is no doubt in my mind that if this country wants to progress and face today’s problems based on reality, it needs to free itself from the influence of faith over politics. Democracy is not based on Christianity, it is much older and requires a lot more responsibility from every individual. The question is: Can we as a society live up to the needs of a healthy democracy?

We had a tongues and interpretation last Sunday in church. God said the gays are responsible for global warming, the stock market crash, hurricanes, tornadoes, post partum depression, flatulence, World War II, poor diet, and acne. You see why we true Christians have it for them, don’tcha now?

Here here SoulaM. Couldn’t agree with you more. And what about that priest in MN who decided to openly endorse McCain in direct violation of the seperation between church and state. What an outright shame. It amazes me the those in our society who make it their business to preach morals, often times have the least.

I agree SoulaM…i believe that this country is in the mess that we are in because we elect a president based on his religious background instead of his capabilities as a leader. and to Loni Sue, how ignorant can you be to say that the way some people live their lives can cause huge disasters as those…i am a “true christian” also, raised in a “true christian” family and going to a “true christian” church my whole life, and it is people like you who give “true christians” a bad name…if you were as christian as you say you are, you wouldnt say such hurtful and judgemental, which is something that “true christians” are NOT supposed to do, things. As a true christian, i am pretty sure you are one of the most ignorant people i have ever encountered. My grandma is the most christian woman anyone could meet and has NEVER said anything bad or even slightly judgemental about another person. Its people like you who cause all those problems…

Where are the good old days when fluoridation and communists were the enemy?…laughter

-Lets see now; Jesus is going to come down and fight the Anti-Christ…..right? God is all powerful so Jesus will win? Sounds like a fixed fight to me. So what is the point?
-We are here for God’s pleasure (Bible) and what is God’s pleasure? If we are made in His imkage then sex is God’s predominant pleasure…so be prepared to swap fudge with God when you get to heaven gentlemen.
-Murder, rape, lust, theft, torture, willful destruction…all things that God has done (Bible) and has encouraged “His people” to do. Are you sure you are reading the right things?…try the library…check books that are printed by publishers other than Christian publishers.
-The all knowing all seeing God isd watching you masturbate late at night (Not pastors and ministers, they have NEVER masturbated, ask them if you don’t believe me…laughter
-Fundamental Christians have had the same experiences, speak to the same invisible people, hear voices from the sky, believe in invisible devils and suffer fear and guilt…exactly like mentally disabled people who are committed…the only difference is that one can keep it in check and the other can’t. This is called “Normative Insanity” and those that keep it in check (and there are quite a few Fundamentalist6s) are quite numerous and bear close scrutiny.
- Religion is rape…spiritual rape and your ignorance makes you one who is “asking for it” Get Educated,,,Pay Attention…Question Biblical Authority.
