Air America Minnesota will add Rachel Maddow to their evening schedule and extend their local Minnesota Matters show to two hours, according to a statement on the station’s website.

The move comes after Monday’s announcement that comedian and possible Minnesota Senate candidate Al Franken will be leaving the network as of February 14.

Air America Minnesota will move Thom Hartmann into Franken’s 2-5 PM slot, and will run Maddow’s show, which is available through the national Air America network, from 7-9 PM.  Minnesota Matters, hosted by Mark Heaney, will expand to fill the 5-7 PM slot.

Air America Minnesota broadcasts on AM 950.  It is a local affiliate of Air America Radio.  The national network has gone through a series of financial problems, but it appears it will be purchased by Steven Green, the brother of former New York City mayoral candidate Mark Green.

This is a great move Considering the flack that Janet Robert got for the memos on same-sex marriage. Adding an openly gay host to the line-up fixes a lot of that animosity.

Agreed. I also like that they’re extending Minnesota Matters–one thing that I think has hindered AM 950 is the lack of local programming.  It has at times seemed more like a distribution service than a radio station.  Some of that is inevitable–when you’re on a network, you’re on a network. But at the very least, going to two hours a day of local programming is going to help give the station a bit more definition.

Is AAR Minnesota still around? I never listen anymore.

Ed Schultz is a blathering old fool.

Rachael Madow is an air head.

No wonder hardly anybody listens anymore.
