Madia just $2,400 shy of raising $1 million in 3rd quarter

A few more phone calls at the end of September and DFLer Ashwin Madia might have passed the $1 million mark for fundraising in the third quarter. His campaign announced today that his total for that quarter was $997,632. That means during 91 days ending Sept. 30, Madia took in nearly half the $2.1 million he’s raised since launching his campaign for Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District last October.
Madia’s Republican rival, state Rep. Erik Paulsen, had raised $1.7 million on Aug. 20 and claims to have taken in his two millionth dollar on Sept. 12. Independence Party candidate David Dillon has raised slightly more than $150,000 — $100,000 of it is his own personal loan to the campaign.

You’re characterization of Ashwin Madia’s PAC contributions is incorrect. He has taken money from and returned money to one corporate PAC. He has accepted and spent money from other PACs. According to CQ MoneyLine, as of August 20, 2008, Ashwin Madia had taken in $368,668 from PACs and candidate PACs. This makes up about 30% of his fundraising totals.

Good point, Apollo, and thanks for the correction. I deleted the last part of the post about PACs, which said (incorrectly) that Madia and Dillon had each received only one PAC donation. That’s true of Dillon, and Madia has received (and returned) only one corporate PAC donation, but both of the leading candidates have received a large proportion of their contributions from PACs — the difference being that Paulsen’s war chest includes gifts from corporate PACs while Madia’s does not.
