Election ’08: Embrace the absurdity

Consider the presidential campaign: Obama “is an Arab,” only he isn’t. John McCain addresses American citizens as “my fellow prisoners.” Sarah Palin on the “Bush doctrine” and foreign policy cred based on the ability to see across water. I’m coming to think that perhaps the best way to endure the last three weeks of what’s likely history’s most bizarre presidential campaign is to embrace the absurdity.

Below: A dramatic reading of minutes from a Wasilla town meeting, Monty Python’s John Cleese on Sarah Palin, Barack Obama’s abiding love of pie — sweet potato pie, coconut creme pie, lemon merengue pie — “Obamacorns” and more.

A dramatic reading of a Wasilla, Alaska, town meeting by actor Chris Schneider. Excerpt:

Voice 1: Did everybody get the packets about the dog decorations?…

Voice 2: Those are dogs? Well, that’s cute.

Voice 1: Everyone in favor of doing them?

All: Yeah, yeah.

Voice 1: Wait, we’ve got to say “aye.”

Cleese: Sarah Palin a Monty Python character?

“I used to think Michael Palin was the funniest Palin.” So says Monty Python’s John Cleese, after a hearty guffaw, of Sarah Palin. “If you lined up from Europe — leftwingers, centrists, rightwingers – you wouldn’t find 10 percent, you probably wouldn’t find five percent who think she’s good enough to run the United States. And she’s running as the partner of a 72-year-old cancer survivor. I mean, Monty Python could’ve written this!”

Barack Obama likes pie. That is all.

Absurditees: Obamacorns, McCain ’08 (that’s 1908), and “Not McCain’s friend” t-shirts.

[...] Helmut has a map of how the world would vote if everyone got to vote for our President, and Paul Schmelzer digs up a video of John Cleese on who’s the funniest Palin of all. [...]

As for McCain-Palin, I’ll hold my snark about the North Minehead By-Election.

My Favorite was when Joe Biden asked a man in a wheel chair to stand up.

LOL Classic stuff:
