The anti-abortion Susan B. Anthony List, the religious right’s answer to the abortion rights group Emily’s list, has bought up time on Minnesota Christian radio stations to run ads attacking Al Franken. Interestingly, pro-life DFLer Rep. James Oberstar sits on the group’s advisory committee.
The ads say, in part (MP3):
In Minnesota, 39 innocent children are lost every day, 39 children every day. And what does comedian Al Franken want to do about it? Nothing. Franken says he supports abortion on demand. It’s no wonder radical pro-abortion groups have embraced Al Franken. They want to overturn the ban on gruesome partial birth abortions, force you to pay for abortions with your tax dollars, and allow young girls to get abortions without their parents consent. Al Franken and his allies are wrong. Call Al Franken right now at 612-344-2008 and tell him MN deserves leaders we can trust to protect life. tell him every life counts and this is no laughing matter.
“While Senate candidates like Al Franken in Minnesota and Kay Hagan in North Carolina hide their extreme support for abortion on-demand from the voters, we are there to expose it,” SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser told the religious right website Lifesite.com. “American voters deserve to know the truth about who really is – and isn’t – on the side of unborn children.”
The group opposes any and all abortion, including those resulting from rape or incest. Like the name suggests, SBA List’s original focus was on progressive pro-life candidates who opposed abortion, but promoted social welfare policies that reduce the need for abortion.
In the late-1990s and early-2000s, the group underwent a transformation as Republican insiders took over the group, aligning its activities close to those of the religious right.
The group is also focusing three other states: Colorado, New Hampshire and New Mexico.

Miscarriages are abortions, why don’t anti-abortion and pro-life folk protest outside of churches?
Hell, SIDS is responsible for roughly 1 death per 2,000 births in the U.S. It’s the leading cause of death in healthy babies after one month of age.
Why aren’t these folk out protesting the murderer up in Heaven?

When liberals start voting against bans of partial or live birth abortions, they have slipped into the realm of the radical left. Only a crazed radical could support the act of taking a live baby that is outside of the womb and living (or one that is just about out) and kill it. Most pro-choice people see these acts as despicable, which is why it confuses me why Franken or Obama would take these stances. (well I know why, follow the money trail)
Shah, you have some seriously messed up logic. So I guess since adults die all the time, whether it be heart attack, hit by a bus, etc, its okay for me to murder people? We are talking about one person, intentionally ending another person’s life.
“”Why aren’t these folk out protesting the murderer up in Heaven?”"
If you knew anything about religion the answer would be self evident.

First off, no one is pro-abortion. I repeat, no one is pro-abortion. There are multiple regulations, laws, etc. at the state and federal levels that say that if a baby is born alive and the doctor present believes that there is a possiblity that it can survive that proper medical attention should be given to it. Partial-birth abortion is also the RAREST of the procedures. And the it is most often referred to as PARTIAL-birth because the fetus is only removed enough to allow the doctor best access and to keep the procedure as short as possible. They are most often done when it is the only option to save the life of the mother. Most abortions are preformed within the first trimester-during this time it is also common for women to miscarry. Some women do not even know that they are pregnant during this time. Abortion’s done in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters are increasingly rare. Second trimester ab’s are only done if the fetus is not viable-could not survive outside of womb. Third trimester’s are only done if the health/life of the mother is at risk, if the child will be still born or if pre-existing/pre-diagnosed medical conditions of the fetus will leave it with absolutely no quality of life.
As a woman with a serious medical problem-blood clots in my leg and lung-carrying a pregnancy to term is a non-option. It would most likely kill me before the fetus could survive outside the womb-even with the best medical care. Should I risk my life to try to have a child that will most likely not survive either? Although birth control is very effective in preventing pregnancy at least 99% of the time, there is still the 1%.

“”Should I risk my life to try to have a child that will most likely not survive either?”
Harrison,
Absolutely not, the partial birth abortion act does not prohibit abortions under those circumstancest. Most “rational” pro-lifers would also agree that when there is a medical risk to the mother such as you describe, that abortion is necessary.

Why can’t we all just combine our efforts to make ADOPTIONS safe, legal and ABUNDANT?!!
If it was a little easier to get unwanted newborns into the hands of adoptive parents, we’d have a lot less abortion in the USA. We’d also see far few parents flying off to China to bring home a baby girl.
The hypocrisy of the proAbortion forces is that they want to make abortions easier to procure and adoptions harder to finalize.

The defining moment for conservative Christians and their claim to support the sanctity of all human life came during the early years of the AIDS epidemic.
They fiercely opposed any public funding for research into HIV and the development of treatment options. The subsequent delay in acquiring medical (anti-viral) interventions , denied thousands even a fighting chance at survival. ( Through the years I buried fifty-seven of the finest men one could ever hope to know in life.)Their lives meant nothing and their painful , and vastly premature deaths were greeted with varying degrees of ‘joy and exaltation’. I am a man of science and was a resident of San Diego during first years of HIV/AIDS. I can state authoritatively and with thoroughly documented evidence , that my friends and the others that humanity lost , died of three causes ; each of them . The principle causes of death were right wing political thinking and conservative religion. The opportunistic cancers and infections of AIDS , were simply contributing factors.
