This afternoon we received a copy of a new fundraising letter from the Michele Bachmann campaign, which has been beset lately by news of Bachmann’s public ties [1] [2] to a former convict who appears to be implicated in the Tom Petters scandals, Frank Vennes Jr., and likewise by the transfer of Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee dollars to Bachmann’s Sixth District race. Earlier today, as Paul Demko noted, the DCCC officially added the Bachmann/Elwyn Tinklenberg race to its national Red-to-Blue campaign.
The letter is reproduced in its entirety below the jump.
Short version: The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Send money!
Dear Friends:
We appear to be witnessing an October surprise here in MN-06 and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann needs your help now – before the reporting period ends on Wednesday, October 15th.
I know that the conventional wisdom has been that the Bachmann seat would be one of the safer Republican seats this year. And, for good reason: for months, things have looked extraordinarily good, particularly thanks to strong financial support from people like you.
In contrast, our opponent’s fundraising has been somewhat anemic. And, his inability to raise much on his own helped to ensure that outside money would find other more promising races to fund.
Apparently, he’s only been biding his time.
He released his 3rd Quarter report today and his fundraising has picked up phenomenally. In fact, in the five-week period between filing of the pre-primary report and the end of September, he raised $312,560. That’s double what he raised in the five-week pre-primary period.
In fact, it far exceeds anything he raised in any of the full quarters this cycle.
He’s already attracting outside money. Alliance for a Better Minnesota – a liberal front group – is running television ads smearing Michele Bachmann’s record. And, the NRCC is reportedly shifting money to cover Michele Bachmann’s race.
A Republican victory in Minnesota’s Sixth District is far from a done deal. In fact, this race has become the last line of defense for Republicans.
It can still be a strong win – but we need your help and we need it now! Please go online and make a secure online donation at www.michelebachmann.com or FedEx your contribution to:

As a citizen in the 6th district I am thrilled about this. I was only able to give $25 due to lack of funds (rent, food, gas, school) but I was happy to do it. Tinklenberg is a change much needed around here.

Just heard her hideous and hateful rant on the Chris Matthews Show and gave to Tinklenberg. I’m sick of the right holding the idea of patriotism hostage. Enough, they all have to go.

After listening to this woman spew hate and filth on Hardball with Chris Matthews earlier today, there is and will continue to be an uprising to get this woman out of office from everywhere in our Country. This woman is not fit to hold office in the Congress of the United States of America. I have donated to her competitor Tinklenberg.

I’m a British Citizen. I’ve lived here in the US for nearly 20 years.I like America. I like Americans. But I’ve never been so angry. The woman is a revolting throwback to the McCarthy years…. and she claims to be a christian !!!! How did you ever elect someone like this? Please work and work to get her out of Congress.
PS What’s with the fixed smile and the dead eyes?

“PS What’s with the fixed smile and the dead eyes?”
it’s either botox or the new republican village of stepford.

One wonders how Bachman will be able to continue after the despicable performance on Hardball yesterday.
It was amazing how revoltingly deep her loathing for her fellow AMERICANS is, if they dare to hold positions with which she disagrees!
She is now revealed as a 21st century fascist, calling for McCarthy-esque hearings into whether members of Congress are “pro-America” or “anit-America!”
How disgraceful. She dishonors her constituents and she dishonors AMERICAN VALUES.
We are encouraged by reports of a sharp spike in contributions to Tinklenberg following her MSNBC comments.

Wow. I have never even thought of donating to an out-of-state (to me) candidate, but Ms Bachmann has now given me that idea.

Michele Bachmann just provided a BIG assist to her rival. Her video has gone viral and, as of this post, his campaign has raised over $126,000 through ActBlue.com. I believe I read somewhere that before Bachmann’s despicable comments on Hard Ball, El Tinklenberg, had only raised something like $2500 on ActBlue. That big number doesn’t count those who went directly to his campaign site (like me) and contributed to his campaign.
I was recently laid off but I decided I could afford to donate $20 to his campaign. I live in MN Congressional District 4. Please give if you can: http://www.actblue.com/entity/fundraisers/18660
The outpouring of disgust over Bachmann’s comments is truly incredible. Those of us in Minnesota who are even nominally involved in the local politics know of Bachmann’s kookiness. She served in the MN State Legislature and her pet issue was fighting against the rights of those in the GLBT community. She sees evil in everyone who does not happen to share her narrow views of the world and she’s dumb enough to express her views openly. Let’s help send her packing on November 4th!

I live in PA and I donated to the Democrat thanks to her fascist statements! How dare this crazy lady who loves to brown nose up to republicans in the white house demand McCarthyism! How dare she take us back to a horrible time in American history and demand that it be revived! Is she on meds? Her stare at the camera was scary!

I live in NYC and I’ve been stretched to donate to the Obama campaign and the “No on 8″ campaign to keep same-sex marriage legal in California, but this woman went WAY over the line. $25 to send her packing!

Know nothing about this race, but have had the misfortune of seeing this Bachman creature on TV spouting about anti-Americans in congress. I hope the people who vote will do her a favor and spare her from having to spend any more time in that liberal bastion of anti-americanism, the US Congress. Do this vampire a favor – send her back to whatever her previous calling was (and I can only guess at that …). Disgusting!

Anti-American? Is Bachmann not clearly portraying herself?
Comment posted October 19, 2008 @ 6:33 pm
I am happy for all the outpouring of support for Ms. McCarthy’s opponent. She lacks the temperament, the vigor (wrongly misplaced), the judgment, and above all the compassion that makes us all of the same human family. I live in California, and Tinklenberg just got my 25.00 donation.
I watched that segment on MSNBC and I was furious that Chris Mathews refused to mention McCain’s involvement with Gordy Libby or it is Liddy? However, it seemed Mr. Mathews only was giving her enough rope to hang herself. And, she was too dumb to take the bait. Here comes the free fall!

Anti-American? Take a look in the mirror!
You are the poster-gal for hate, bigotry, rasism, inciting dissention in american politics.

Now we’ve got Bachmann claiming that her “anti-American” comments of the 17th were a misreading of what she said. A misreading of a TV interview? Insane. Medical science has developed drugs for the serious psychological aberration that is plaguing Bachmann. I suggest she double her dosage. I also suggest a nice long rest, OUT OF OFFICE, while she pursues her mental health. Minnesotans, let’s help her out here. We must vote her into a more calm and comfortable environment while she searches for whatever small sliver of sanity she ever possessed: her own home!
