Zooming in on 2010 (and Attempting to Focus)

Editor’s Note: Minnesota Monitor is happy to welcome back Matt Martin of MNpublius, who will be writing twice monthly columns on the first and 15th.  This article is cross-posted at MNpublius

The length of the political campaign season is getting a little out of control in the United States.  When you have two prominent politicians of the same party publicly sparring over the controversial comments of a prized Hollywood fund-raiser a full year before most states have their primaries, well, let’s just say things have gotten a little out of hand.

So, I’m going to do the responsible thing.  I’m going to do what so many other political commentators, pundits, and reporters should be doing: ignore the 2008 cycle for now… and start talking about the 2010 cycle!  If a couple of my readers are wondering what that foul taste in your mouth was right there, it was your gag reflex letting you know that this just isn’t right but, hey, maybe it’s so wrong, it’s right!?  Yeah, probably not, but I’m going to go ahead with this ridiculousness anyway.Pulling out my best set of political binoculars and aiming them squarely at the governor’s mansion in November 2010, all I can make out right now is a blur of blue, red, and, wait a second, is that a pink boa?  No, it can’t be, forget the body and let’s move on.  Readjusting the zoom on these binocs here, I’m going to zoom…out…a little…ah, here we go, June 2010: the primary (keep your fingers crossed that it actually is moved to June).  Well, the focus is still pretty blurry, but at least I can make out some faces.

A lot of faces, in fact.  What’s with these binoculars?  How can there be this many DFLers still around at the primary in 2010?  Haven’t some already dropped out or decided not to run?  Oh, I see, the disclaimer on the side of the lens says, “Warning: these binoculars can only display all possibilities; objects in the future-view-finder are less predictable than they appear.

Good to see Soros is finally getting his money’s worth out of you Matt. You (and MNpubis) were heading into “recalcitrant sock puppet” territory.

Nice to see you heel; now you can enjoy that check with the knowledge that you have earned it.

You forgot a few Uh – you must be a little out of practice or your binochulars are a bit blurry as you forgot a few people.

What about Mayor Rybak, Mayor Coleman, Ted Mondale?

You forget Iz.. Matt’s got him a pair of Soros goggles on top his little sock puppet head.

All he can see is that paycheck stapled to the official opinion of the day.

On the missing items Rybak and Coleman are fairly legitimate oversights, and pretty substantial ones at that.  Mondale… meh, I don’t really think so, but I could be wrong.  Mostly this was just an exercise in fun though, not to be taken too seriously.

All in fun It was fun – so thank you for keeping me enteratined on this snowy afternoon.

But – I do believe Mondale is looking at running.

Obsessed with Soros It’s clear that Swiftee is obsessed with Soros, in that he has to mention it umpteen times a day as though he never said it before.

Wondering if Soros was that bad to you when you tried to milk him for money?

I don’t associate with scumbags of Soros’ ilk. And I don’t accept money to blog from anyone.
