I’d like to think that Minnesota’s contributions to informed political dialogue transcend the Obama’s-an-Arab incident, but for now that’s what we get: a version of the Lakeville rally questioner made an appearance on Saturday Night Live’s Thursday edition of Weekend Update last night (starts at 6:15).

There is nothing illegal about Republicans making idiots of themselves. She asked a fairly common question, which was wrong to begin with, and McCain to his credit had the decency to try and turn it off. Was it a set up? I would not put it past the McCain campaign to try political theater to his own advantage. But this little bit is part and parcel about the thinking going on out there, and ought not be dismissed out f hand.

She’s not crazy, she’s a Fox viewer

Good send-up of this woman, though I don’t see her as crazy. That term individualizes her racist pathology. Like a LOT of hesitant white voters (including Democrats), she’s misinformed, and the source is the McCain/Palin campaign’s subconsciously racist campaign.

I love the interview Collin Powell gave to Meet the Press, it was a great case-point on this subject (Is it wrong to be a Muslim or Arab in America)?
