It makes you wonder, if the AIP uses it's access to information from the Govenors office to further its own agenda and militia. It also clears up why Palin flew from a different state, back to alaska to give birth, since the party her husband belongs to feels Alaska was not properly given a option for independance as a territory before it was admitted as a state, and right-wing alaskans would like to retro-actively claim this option now. I also wonder why the media did not make as big a deal out of Palins husbands membership in the AIP as was made of Obama's association with Ayers, or Reverand Wright. Now maybe they can add another dimension to the Obama Birth Certificate Dramas, maybe Hawaii also wasent properly offered the option of Independance before they were admitted into the United States. You gotta wonder, it seems like when being in the united states gives benefits, everyone is all about it, but when its time to help with responsibilities that come along with benefits of being part of the United States, all of a sudden its more beneficial for the top twenty percent to be a commonwealth or territory, all the benefits, half the responsibilities what state wouldn't want that deal. Initialy or retroactively.

Thank you for this piece. Todd Palin's role as a kind of unelected co-governor has not been looked at sufficiently by the national press.

"" Why do I get the impression that Todd is the real wingnut and Sarah Palin has no real interests or beliefs other than using her personal magnetism to further her ambitions? ""

Because you are a liberal with a traditional liberal bias, which prevents you from thinking about non-liberals in an obective manner.

Isn't it ironic, that the liberal media will write article after article about the Palin's alleged ties to the Alaska Independence Party, but completely ignore Sarah Palin's much stronger and more recent ties to the Libertarian Party? Palin was the guest speaker at two Libertarian Party meetings in 2005/06, and graciously accepted the Party's endorsement for her Gubernatorial run. She even thanked the Libertarian Party twice in front of over 1,000 people on election night at the downtown Anchorage Egan Center victory party.

But you see, mentioning the Libertarian Party in relation to Sarah Palin would be too much of a positive. It doesn't quite fit the liberal media template of the Palin's being "sinister, mysterious, political extremists."

The Libertarian Party being the Nation's third largest political party, with over 500 elected officials serving nationwide, and all.

So, they ignore the LP, and talk only of the AIP. As if nobody is noticing their blatant bias.

No one who doesn't not have a clearance or is not an employee without a clearance can have access to federal documents. Palin, her husband and her fiscal director all closed themselves in her office and began to cut budget with her hubby's help. I bet all Sarah did was sign on the dotted line, then was briefed as to why the choice was made.

Now the story of her home being built with construction money from the gigantic rink built next to her new home is in serious review. She deliberately did away with contracting procedures to rid the evidence!

(direted here from lefarkins). It is indeed a weird Alaska dynamic that pretends to be exceptional in every way (and well-compensated for that exceptionalism, BTW), yet also seems prepared, indeed, eager, to pronounce judgments about the true Americanness of everyone else in this nation.

It is a beautiful place (join the crowd, America is a pretty beautiful place if you know where to look and what to appreciate). It is a big place. And it has truly remarkable people, and its fair share of nutjobs, just like everywhere else. It is just systemically corrupt in a way that most places aren't, and it appears that most people there really don't get that. That is the rather unique thing about Alaska, sad to say. It has a very small group of elite and rich people that call the shots, and until a few months ago, that was totally cool with everyone. Now that their entire congressional delegation and governor are under the legal microscope, well, maybe things will change a bit. But maybe not.
