Update: The campaign now says it’ll release 24-hour fundraising numbers at 3:05 pm today on Daily Kos and the Huffington Post. His Act Blue donations as of 2 pm Saturday are approaching $180,000, raised since yesterday.
Democrat El Tinklenberg’s campaign has received an “overwhelming” amount of contributions since his Republican opponent, Rep. Michele Bachmann, told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that she believed the media should investigate whether members of Congress are “anti-American.” But, as the money’s coming in so quickly, the campaign can’t yet give firm numbers.
Tinklenberg’s communications director, Kate Monson, told MnIndy that online support has been strong, and that donations coming through Act Blue — $128,000 currently, coming from more than 3,000 supporters — has been one of many ways the campaign has been accepting funds. She wouldn’t give an estimate for direct donations to Tinklenberg08.com. “We’ve had an overwhelming amount of online support,” she says. “We’re still counting so it’s impossilbe to give an accurate estimate.” She says the campaign will make an announcement of the figure Monday morning.
Asked why Tinklenberg’s website doesn’t mention Bachmann’s words, she promised, “There will be a response at the right moment.”
Finally, she dispelled rumors that the Tinklenberg website was having troubles due to the increased volume of traffic. “We believe we have the capacity to continue” at this level of traffic, she added.
An online petition to censure Bachmann, which is not affiliated with the Tinklenberg campaign, now includes more than 18,000 signatures.

I hope thousands of people will donate to Mr. Tinklenberg’s campaign and get the truly dangerous Bachmann out of the House. She would have been right at home in the Joe McCarthy years, accusing those with differing opinions of being “anti-American.” I hope El is able to send her home so she can “spend more time with her family.”

You folks are the first to post a proper journalist report on this phenomenon. congrats. Keep an eye on the ActBlue site… it’s still taking off.

Ms Bachmann is wrong! Not very smart either. To go on National TV and call for a witch hunt in Congress to search for just who is pro or anti American, political suicide! Speaks volumes of her values or a lack thereof. Hope she is soundly defeated by her Democratic opponent.

$142,315 is the current total on the ActBlue site and it’s growing by the minute.
On the Daily Kos site, they noted that the day before Ms. Bachmann’s appearance on HardBall, the total had been $2,500
$143,687… in the minute or so it took me to write this

Agreed on the above comments. When they have nothing substantial to contribute, meaningful to say, or positive to generate, the likes of Ms Bachmann will wake up voters to the incongruity between what those politicians say and what they do. There are actually some politicians who understand that their office is a public service. Here’s to trusting the voters to discover the public servants that understand that aren’t interested in inciting a witch-hunt among our own.

Saw this the other nite on Chris Mathews, and I was shocked. Read about it on HuffPost and decided to donate. We have to take our country back, live up to the great ideals of our Constitution. I have lost too many relatives, too many friends who have fought to preserve our freedoms. Enough!

Lead story on HuffPo - hopefully we can get to 250k by the end of the day - I was hoping by Monday but it’s really piling up fast.
Makes me proud to be an American.

I’m a Chicagoan who is proud to donate to help elect Mr. Tinklenberg and throw the dangerous neofascist Bachmann out of Congress. As if the last eight years weren’t bad enough, she now wants to start a new McCarthy-esque witch hunt? Is she insane?
This whole situation is a wakeup call to all of us: Without a supportive Congress, President Obama won’t be able to do what needs to be done. We should all be watching and taking part in Congressional contests across the country.

The People’s Republic of Austin, TX (thanks, Tom DeLay!) showed Tinklenberg some love through ActBlue (he’s broken $150k on that site alone!).
I also contacted my Congressman about censuring Michelle Bachmann for her hateful, provocative speech.
Now, voters of MN-06, do the right thing and vote this McCarthy wannabe out on her ear.

Politicians regardless of color need to understand the power of the global community-the Internet and the responsibility they have as leaders. These are challenging times that require leaders who are visionaries who can motivate, lead and unite the country.
There is no room for mindsets like this lady. Mr. EL Tinklenberg, the people of this country needs true leaders who are thoughtful, mature and most important godly. I pray you will be such a leader…

This woman confused being a congresswoman with being a right wing radio host. Only hate radios say such irresponsible things. You were supposed to represent everybody in your district, not just the right wing nuts.

I have just contributed to Mr. Tinklenberg’s campaign. I am uncertain as to whether this surge in campaign contributions will be enough for Mr. Tinklenberg to defeat Ms. Bachman. However, I am fairly certain it will at least give this McCarthyite pause before she opens her foul mouth again. Hopefully, now she’ll have to concentrate on her own re-election efforts….instead of worrying about doing national news shows. No matter what the outcome, if my contribution helps to shut her up until after election day, it will be money well spent.

Now this is what I call unity! Democrats, Independents and Republicans alike from across the USA pitching in to help the good people of Minnesota make this Country a better place for all of us. If you don’t believe me about the Republicans, there’s quite a group at republicansforobama.org who have been happy to donate to this just cause.
United we stand, Divided we fall. We must work together to put an end to the divide and conquer tactics being used by the likes of Bachmann, not to mention McCain/Palin. To do otherwise would be downright anti-American.
Minnesota, we’re reaching out to you. Please, don’t let us down.

Oops, they did it again.
Nancy Pfotenhauer, the official spokeswoman for the McCain campaign just gave a live interview on MSNBC where she said that “real Virginians” were voting for John McCain, and the Obama supporters were “people who’d moved in to North Virginia from D.C. in droves.”
The commentator called her on the “real Virginians support McCain” remark and she got all flustered. I’m sure you can find either a transcript or a clip.
This stuff needs to get out there.
I’m sure Virginians for Obama will be surprised that the GOP doesn’t consider them “real” citizens of their state.
Why do Republicans continue to insist that only “they” are patriotic? They’re opening up a very dangerous genie that is going to be impossible to put back into the bottle after the election. They’ve created the biggest divide in America since the civil war.

I contributed to Tinklenberg and it was my first donation ever to a Congressional candidate. Michele Bachmann is scary and a true traitor the American spirit and the Constitution. We can’t have someone like her who think like the KKK - “if you don’t share my beliefs we will hang you!” I read through Tinklenberg’s stances on the issues even though I do not live in his district we are all affected by who is in Congress. He shares my views but even if he didn’t I would do whatever I can to make sure someone like him gets elected and unseats a proven fascist like Michele Bachmann.
Comment posted October 18, 2008 @ 1:29 pm
Oh yes, and I also saw that clip of McCain spokeswoman Nancy Pfotenhauer saying people who live in northern Virginia were not real Virginians. What has happened to the GOP? It has become nothing but a party of hate and divisiveness.

I watched the segment and concluded that she would be better off at Menninger’s getting treated than she will be in Congress when it reconvenes because her colleagues on either side of the aisle will treat her like an Ebola virus carrier. She’s toast.

The last few hours have been nothing short of astounding. Since Congresswoman Michele Bachmann appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball earlier tonight, there’s been a deluge of support unlike anything we have seen.
Kossacks:
The last few hours have been nothing short of astounding. Since Congresswoman Michele Bachmann appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball earlier tonight, there’s been a deluge of support unlike anything we have seen. We are so grateful to the Daily Kos community and others who’ve sounded the alarm on Bachmann’s extremist, shameful rhetoric and pitched in with whatever they can to help end her tenure in Congress.
Our phones haven’t stopped ringing. Many have called in to say they’re sorry they can only send money and wish they could be here to help. We want you to know what a difference your funds are making and that, thanks in part to your help, we are confident that we will be able to win this race. We are preparing to get out the vote on an unprecedented scale, and with supporters like you we will have the resources we need to get the job done.
I am both hopeful and humbled at the reminder you gave me tonight – that in our country’s darkest times, it is the strength and belief and action of ordinary Americans that ultimately brings about the change we need. From the hardworking folks in Minnesota’s Sixth District to all of you: we are proud to have you on our side.
Thank you,
El Tinklenberg

2008 was the year the game changed , 2008 was the year the internet was mobilized in a way as never before. The same people that funded Obama’s campaign $5 at a time are the same one’s who are funding Tinkleberg’s ever raising campaign funds. We the people are a force to be reckoned with. This is just the beginning, we will one day be more powerful then the largest lobby and more demanding then the wealthiest special interest. Gone are the days when you can say whatever you please without regard for the people.

My 10 dollars from PA with all the blessings in the world was sent yesterday night to help remove this crazy lady from a political seat. She embraces McCarthyism for American citizens and POLITICIANS! Has she a brain? And what’s with that crazy stare? We need to remove crazy people whose only goal is to get up close and personal and brown nose Republican crooks in order to get in the financial game. People like her and Palin are examples of uneducated voters with unbelievable priorities. The education system is either failing us or there is something in the water dumbing a portion of Americans.

I just made a donation to Democrat El Tinklenberg and I’m in Ohio. After hearing that Bachman last night on Chris Matthews, she needs to not be anywhere near a Congress in any country of the world. She is evil. It sounds like McCarthyism. Palin is also McCarthyism. That shows something about McCain’s judgment, which is terrible. Lord help this country if either of them even come close to winning November 4.

I was pleased to submit my donation to El Tinklenberg following Michelle Bachmann’s ludicrous statements to the nation on Chris Matthews Hardball the other night. As a 20-year Army veteran, I was doubly insulted to be lumped into the general category of unpatriotic by inference. The likes of Ms Bachmann need to be routed out of the sacred halls of our Congress. If there are others who seek to inject neo-fascism into our governmental workings, please feel free to step onto the national stage and besmirch American citizens who hold views other than their own. The next money bombs will target Senate seats, leaving the DNC freed up to help fight in the presidential campaign.

I hear the total is up to $630,000. I sent $500 because I remember Joe McCarthy and the thousands of lives he ruined with his so-called anti-communist ranting. We had enough of that type of demagogue and I hope she goes down in defeat on Nov. 4…

I am in Michigan and I remember well what happened when the nation did not condemn Joe McCarthy. The best way of silencing the Bachmann kind of poison is to beat her. This is my small contribution to the Tinllenberg effort to do so.

If Ms.Bachmann wants an investigation of Congress, why not have her do the investigating rather than the media as she stated on the Chris Mathew’s show Hardball.
She has been on enough television networks to know what to say and how to say it. She should have known better. She has no one else to blame
but herself.
Ms. Bachmann was the cause of her own problem by making some nonsense
comments.
