No Smear Left Behind: Wingnuts at the End of the Road

David Corn has a comprehensive rundown of the anti-Obama talking points that are already gurgling to the surface from the ruptured pipes of the right wing sewer system. The short version?  Obama will enable terrorists to enter the country via illegally-obtained drivers’ licenses, which is merely one of the policies this Black Muslim president would pursue out of gratitude to the global Jihadists who have secretly funded his campaign.  There’s nothing new in any of these claims, except the ferocity with which the “evidence” for their truth will be asserted and circulated.  One can only assume that the people susceptible to this species of disinformation have already (a) decided to cast their lot with the McCain campaign and (b) buried a cache of assault weapons, Snickers bars and Christian reading materials in their backyards.

But if we’re to learn anything from Michele Bachmann’s apparent psychotic break and Sarah Palin’s disgusting stump-speech insinuations — all to the effect that “anti-American” forces are coiled in preparation for November 5 — there may be a weird role that white women play in the public conveyance of these themes.
