El Tinklenberg responded Saturday to statements his opponent, Rep. Michele Bachmann, made Friday afternoon to MSNBC’s Chris Matthews that perhaps the media should investigate members of Congress for “anti-American” sentiment.
Congresswoman Bachmann says everyone who disagrees with her is anti-American. Once again revealing her extreme ideology, Congresswoman Bachmann yesterday called for an “expose” on Senator Obama and those in Congress who disagree with her. Before this, Congresswoman Bachmann insisted that low income families with mortgages brought down Wall Street.
Congresswoman Bachmann continues to divide people rather than work with others to fix our economy.
“As a minister and mayor, I brought people together,” Tinklenberg said. “I believe you build by addition, not division. In Congress, I will work to jump-start the economy on Main Street by creating jobs and rebuilding our infrastructure.”
Tinklenberg also thanked the massive outpouring of support from people across the country who found Bachmann’s words distasteful:
The last few hours have been nothing short of astounding. Since Congresswoman Michele Bachmann appeared on MSNBC’s Hardball earlier tonight, there’s been a deluge of support unlike anything we have seen. We are so grateful to the Daily Kos community and others who’ve sounded the alarm on Bachmann’s extremist, shameful rhetoric and pitched in with whatever they can to help end her tenure in Congress.
I am both hopeful and humbled at the reminder you gave me tonight – that in our country’s darkest times, it is the strength and belief and action of ordinary Americans that ultimately brings about the change we need. From the hardworking folks in Minnesota’s Sixth District to all of you: we are proud to have you on our side.
The Tinklenberg campaign will be releasing fundraising totals Saturday afternoon from the last 24 hours, a total which is expected to top $200,000.

As someone who lives in another state, I always thought folks in Minnesota were fairly commonsense, straightforward people. I guess I might have been mistaken. It surprises me that anyone would elect a vile representative that apparently Minnesota has. No we know where the divisiveness and division we’ve seen in Washington has come from.
If she doesn’t get voted out after this, the rest of the country will look at Minnesotans very differently.

Yes – P-L-E-A-S-E WAKE THE HECK UP!!! This woman is a Christiofascist Zombie who has no place in politics, PERIOD!!! Every time she speaks it is outright psychobabble. I thought Minnesotans were smarter than this! I guess you all can’t be Garrison Keillor, but COME ON!!!

Minnesotans have such a respected reputation as reasonable, thinking people. Don’t let this ignorant maniac continue to represent you.

I was outraged and painfully wounded when I heard that McCarthy woman, Rep. Bachmann, speak. We have been moving to help our fellow patriots oust this person on the Obama blog. So many of us donated to Mr. Tinklenberg after the first call to arms. We need that extremist ideology censured and taken out of congress. This is OUR country, and OUR nation -and we won’t be called anti-American while we are born and die in it or for it.
This is MY country, too and I won’t be called unAmerican EVER!
VOTE for Obama and VOTE for Tinklenberg!

The only anti-American here is Bachmann. The only thing she left out were
her JACKBOOTS. She appears to be ignorant of the history of our Great
country and the era of Joseph McCarthy. She would have you believe that
liberals are anti-American and unpatriotic. This is blatant stupidity. In
reality it is her views that smack of Fascism. She even suspects that many
members of congress are unAmerican. If ever a miscreant needed to be
kicked out of congress it’s this woman.

She is a total nutjob.

I am proud to be one of those who contributed to El, after seeing Bachmann expose HER un-American views on Hardball.
She just kept talking and talking, happy to have a forum to state what she believes…and WHAT she believes is simply horrifying.
I have never liked her when I have seen her on national television, glorifying Bush & Cheney & the war…but now, I do NOT want her as an American elected offcial.
Minnesotans…please. Please. Elected someone worthy of your beautiful state.

Bachmann is a vicious, divisive fool! She has the nerves to call people Anti American…no Bachmann you’re the one with your rightwing so called Christian hate filled heart that’s Anti American. Stop calling yourself a Christian, cause you are not Christ like!

In addition to her repugnant interview on Hardball, Bachman blamed Blacks and minorities for the financial crisis during a Congressional hearing in September. That’s the same tactic used by neo-nazi hate groups who’ve been blaming Jewish people for the crisis. Why does she continue to be given a platform to spew her own hate group anti-Americanism?

I was horrified by Bachman’s unhinged spiel on Hardball. We don’t elect Congresspeople in America to spout hateful propaganda. We don’t elect them so they can stare with creepily fixed smiles into cameras and lie their faces off. And we don’t elect them to shamelessly smear decent Americans’ reputations.
Please, Minnesota, use your vote wisely.

Deep in Minnesotans hearts, a rush of reality has awaken the spirit of what America stands for and what America has sustained by the likes of Backman like GOP clones. It is good this vile woman spoke up. God provides, and He has graced us with the blessing of knowing the evil that lurks not only in this woman’s heart but in the spirit of the GOP and McCain’s campaign.
Before this campaign none of us knew the REAL McCAIN; we do now.
Justifying the election of this woman is no longer debatable in terms of what she stands for and the contrast that the honorable Tinklenberg represents.
This is as clear as the Holy Spirit opening your eyes.
God bless America, go vote.

Wake up Minnesota!
Rep. Michele Bachmann’s comments on Hardball were disgusting and divisive. She lied in her assertion that Obama has had CLOSE connections to terrorists or that he is somehow anti-American. This is a bold-faced smear tactic. The reason the press isn’t investigating her assertion is because it has ALREADY BEEN INVESTIGATED thoroughly. Obama associates himself with people like Warren Buffet, Joe Biden, Gen. Powell, etc. Are they anti-American? Should we hold trials to find out? How about we blacklist people? Bachmann’s ridiculous sentiments are dangerous and slanderous!
My husband and I are both Veterans, and we are supporting a “liberal” candidate…Obama. Shame on Bachmann for calling people anti-American because they don’t agree with her. Maybe she should spend a few days fighting in the military along side some “liberals” like me. When she sees a “liberal” offer their blood and life for their country, maybe she will get an education in what it means to be a true AMERICAN. I love my country with all my heart, I would not take calling anyone anti-American lightly. It is the ultimate insult. She needs to apologize and explain herself, at the very least.
I’m happy to give my hard-earned money to support El Tinklenberg.
God Bless America, land that we ALL love!!!!

If congresswoman Bachmann says there are anti-American characters serving in the U.S., then she must have a good idea who they are and, rather than vaguely allude to them, she should, as a patriotic duty, expose them ourtight. Also, she should provide us with a clear definition of what anti-Americanism is, so we can identify the traitors who hold such views and purge them from our midst, be they in academe, the news media, entertainment, religious organizations, business, sports, or even in neighborhoods and families, if necessary. The spirit of the great American patriot, Joe McCarthy, lives on in the person of congresswoman Bachmann.

I agree with so many of those who have already written. I was frightened as I listened to Congresswoman Bachmann on Hardball with Chris Matthews last night. Ms. Bachmann’s comments as well as the rest of the despicable rhetoric coming from the McCain-Palin campaign is dangerous. It only fuels fear, hate and bigotry in those that support them and listen to them. I really would appreciate if the Congresswoman, and those who think like her, would stop judging us and telling us who is worthy of being called patriotic and American and who is not.

I cannot believe that Rep Bachman thinks that Obama may have Anti American views. Her own favorite Palin’s husband was responsible for a Charles Manson comparison at a campaign rally, how unAmerican is that! I cannot believe that Rep Bachman is so blind! I heard her at her first speech about Palin, what does she think of her now!
Comment posted October 20, 2008 @ 9:18 pm
Well, what do you expect? That’s all the Repukes campaign has been
about. Hatred, Bigotry, Racism, Smear Tactics and inciting dissention ..and she has the balls to call someone else “unamerican”. Amazing! She’s revolting.

How does a person like this get elected? And you wonder why people don’t vote. Felons in the senate morons in congress and people wonder why this country is in the position it in. Every one who runs for office of any kind senate congress etc. they all tell you what you want to hear then guess what when they get in they do whatever suits them. Win the top 1% of the weathest people have more that 50% of america something has to change. 20 years ago there were 15 billionaires in this country today there are 2,000 so this idea about spreading the weath. It another spin job. Maybe congresswoman Bachmann can work at Fox News.
