While Rep. Michele Bachmann’s “anti-America” flap continues to generate donations for opponent El Tinklenberg — nearly $800,000 in three days — many are wondering when the Tinklenberg campaign is going to hit Bachmann with ads while she’s down.
Tinklenberg has previously said he wouldn’t do negative ads this campaign, but would using Bachmann’s comments in full context with Colin Powell repudiating them be a negative ad?
Jed Lewison of the Jed Report, and more recently DailyKos, put together a simple video that captures the events of the last three days: a full clip of Bachmann’s statements bracketed by a rebuke of those statements by Colin Powell:

I do admit it would directly assault her campaign’s spin on it. That precise phrase on the clip is something they’ve avoided even addressing. They focused on using the Obama segment of the interview and used it to reiterate the overall McCain campaign stand on more scrutiny of his associations, beliefs, etc.
I don’t see it as an attack ad though, if left as is. Simple clips of things knowingly said to a TV camera of their own volition. Add an “I am El Tinklenberg and I approve of this Message” and I don’t know… does that change things? Doesn’t sound like where El wants to go with his campaign.
