Let the Hires BEGIN! —Matt Martin

Editor’s Note: Minnesota Monitor is happy to welcome back Matt Martin of MNpublius, who will be writing twice monthly columns on the first and 15th.

There are a couple of small quakes shaking the political landscape here in Minnesota down to its 2008 Senatorial core.  First Mike Ciresi scores the former Walz Campaign Manager, Kerry Greeley, to be his own campaign manager.  After that we’re hit with the delicious Twinkies of the political world: polling numbers (a whopping 20 months out!).  Then this very site reports on a rumor that Greeley’s former boss is being recruited by the DSCC.  Well, I think I can add one more tremor… but first let’s look at each of these moves individually.

more inside
Mike Ciresi just can’t seem to get his timing down.  There’s no doubt that he wants another shot at the big seat, but he waited too long in 2006 and allowed Amy Klobuchar to amass enough momentum to make an entrance almost impossible.  So, this time around Ciresi decided to announce much earlier, but it still wasn’t early enough.  He was beaten to the punch again and just a few days ago it looked as though the momentum leader would drown him out once again

McIntosh and Kimball As someone who worked with both Jess and Nick, I can’t tell you how happy I am for both of them.

McIntosh will do a fantastic job for Franken, and the DFL will march on with Kimball. Kimball is a guy who been working in the trenches the past few years, and it’s good to see him get this opportunity.

When I was communications director for the DFL Party, albeit briefly, I leaned heavily on both McIntosh and Kimball for strategy, research and messaging.

Both the Franken campaign and the DFL Party are fortunate to have these solid communications professionals.
