According to the latest financial disclosure reports, Education Minnesota, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and the Minnesota Vikings Football Club are the top-three spenders for lobbying, putting a combined $4 million into pitching state legislators. In 2006, the Vikings spent $1.16 million, nearly six times what they did in 2005. Education Minnesota, the union representing teachers, nearly doubled its spending –  from $800,000 in 2005 to $1.52 million in 2006. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce’s spending was in the range that it has been the last few years — $1.38 million.

Clear Channel went from spending nothing in 2005 to spending $60,000 in 2006, as did the SAS Institute, Single Sales Factor Coalition, the St. Paul Police Federation and Ticketmaster.

Planned Parenthood of Minnesota spent just $1,546 in 2006 compared with $190,912 in 2005.

The Jobs Now Coalition punched in with the least amount — $24.50.

You can’t blame EdMN It is an expensive proposition to convince the public to pour billions more dollars into teachers pockets when so many of their kids are failing to graduate…we’re talking historically high numbers of kids hitting the streets functionally illiterate.

It’s also got to be a tough row to hoe to explain why those who do graduate, even those considered to be the cream of the crop are found to need remedial education when they reach college.

Bullshit of the caliber that EdMN specializes in costs plenty to spread.

I especially love the focus the new thug in charge promises to lead the union to…at least this guy is not trying to foster any illusions that anything will change.
