The online world is a fantastic place to get up-to-date information and engage with a community of users.

But politicans seem to have a difficult time navigating that world.

The latest misstep?  Rochester City Council Member Pat Carr.
more insideVia MN Politics, according to the Star Tribune, Rochester City Council member Pat Carr has been using an annoymous online account to post praise for himself and chastise his detractors.

Some of the dozens of messages posted from Carr’s account since November found notes of praise for him, while some attack officials who voted differently than Carr.

For example, in a comment posted Sunday that answered a critical comment from another reader, Carr wrote: “Pat Carr has done nothing but stand up for the silent majority.” In a comment posted Friday he wrote: “People that run him down are special interest groups and insiders that Carr exposes.”

Carr acknowledged Monday that he wrote all past comments except one, which was written by a friend visiting his office.

This isn’t the first time annoymous commenters from candidate offices have used an online forum to attack his or her opponent, and I’m sure it will not be the last.

But it is a good reminder of the publicity you will get once you are finally exposed.
