Ellison: Peace Is Possible in the Middle East

U.S. Rep. Keith Ellison believes that peace is possible in the Middle East if the United States is willing to step up to the plate. The Minnesota Democrat made the comment as he returned from a weeklong trip to the region with a congressional delegation led by House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

“If we fold our arms and turn our backs and say people have to meet conditions before we meet with them, things are going to get worse,” Ellison told the Star Tribune on Saturday.

Ellison was part of a high-profile congressional delegation that went to several countries in the Middle East, including Israel, Palestinian territories, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. Ellison said he was “impressed

Peace would be possible in the Middle East… …if we defunded the war in Iraq and brought our combat forces home from Iraq, if we stopped backing the Ethiopian invasion of Somalia which is displacing thousands to Yemen, etc.

Voting for the Iraq War Emergency Supplemental has done nothing for peace.
