Video: Obama, up in ND polls, airs new ad

With Barack Obama’s polling improving in traditionally red North Dakota, the Democrat’s campaign is debuting a new TV spot there. The commercial, which will also air this weekend in Georgia and John McCain’s home state of Arizona, links McCain to George W. Bush, who’s approval is now a historic low 22 percent. “Wonder where John McCain would take the economy? Look behind you,” the spot begins, cutting to an image of Bush and McCain in a car’s rearview mirror.

The ad’s visual device of a rear view mirror echoes a rhetorical device Obama is now using (or vice versa). As some TV commenter pointed out, it’s a sign of a highly coordinated campaign — in contrast to McCain’s “Where’s Joe the plumber?” confusion yesterday.

I am proud that for once ND is a state in play and not a solidly red state.
The fact that we are talking more about North Dakota, Montana, Florida, Georgia, and so on and so forth more than we are talking about states like Minnesota and Wisconsin does not bode well for McCain.
Rachel Maddow put it best in a football metaphor this week. If the entire game is being played on YOUR 20 yard line you probably are not winning.
