Conservative Republican Insider: ‘Hacktacular’ New Start on Way for GOP
Tuesday, May 08, 2007 at 7:56 pm
[Update]: Per the comments on this post, Mr. Aplikowski appears to have backed away from the comments he made to Jeff Fecke. Minnesota Monitor strives for fairness in all our work, but truth, according to the code of ethics to which our fellows adhere, is a higher purpose than balance. To that end, the full transcript of the interview is available here.
Andy Aplikowski may seem like an unlikely figure to be in the vanguard of a Republican Party insurrection. The son of a former mayor, Aplikowski was one of the bloggers at Kennedy v. the Machine, a blog set up in support of Mark Kennedy’s unsuccessful 2006 run for U.S. Senate, as well as a founder of Bachmann v. Wetterling, which supported Michele Bachmann’s campaign. He even rode along with Kennedy’s RV tour in the waning days of the campaign. He’s an unrepentant conservative, and he’s been hard on those he perceives as too liberal — or Republicans “in name only.” He’s even taken a few shots at Minnesota Monitor.
But Aplikowski is part of a growing wave of discontent among GOP faithful, borne of the fallout from the disastrous 2006 elections. While some within the party have simply shrugged and suggested that it was just a DFL wave, Aplikowski has taken harsh shots at state GOP Chair Ron Carey and the leadership of the Minnesota GOP, on the pages of his blog, in GOP meetings, or through an unsuccessful candidacy for state vice chair from the Sixth Congressional District.
“Debate is good for politics,” said Aplikowski in an interview with Minnesota Monitor. “Cowards who hide behind the 11th commandment, spew dime-a-dozen lazy compliments and stab you in the back anonymously need to be held accountable.”
Aplikowski was clear on whom he blamed for the party’s failures in 2006.
“Ron Carey. Pure and simple,” he said, when asked the main factor in the GOP’s defeat last year. “No two ways about it. I would challenge him to a duel if I could,” he added, jokingly.
Aplikowski was withering in his criticism of Carey and his regime and said that his side has support.
“The grass roots and the people on the [Republican] Central Committee who aren’t total zombies — and it’s a thin majority — finally see not only what a tool Carey is but what kind of snakes support him, and what a dismal mistake it was to support him in 2006,” he said.
More InsideAplikowski doesn’t directly blame Carey and his supporters for a last-minute anonymous hit piece against him that may have derailed his vice chair bid, one that would have put him on the GOP’s Central Committee. But he did say, “I’m not going to name names, but let’s just say they think they get the ‘final word’ on everything.”
Aplikowski indicated that he was open to the candidacy of Lt. Col. Joe Repya for chair of the GOP, saying, “I admire the colonel and think he’d be a good chairman.” While he thought Repya’s recent absence from the state might be used against him, he said, “If it is a Repya vs. Carey choice, on their leadership plans and record, Repya it is.” However, he hinted that another candidate for GOP chair might be in the wings.
“There’s a dark horse that some of us insiders are talking about now — an insider with big national money connections plus a huge national and local media presence and a reputation as a get-it-done guy and a giant-killer. The kind of guy we need to take on that slimy trial lawyer you guys have.” Aplikowski added cryptically, “Some people I know in both the grass roots and the central committee are feeling a powerful pull.”
Aplikowski said that the GOP needs to find its voice, and look to business for ideas on how to craft its message.
“Politics is a business, and the parties have to run that way. McDonald’s doesn’t kick Burger King’s ass by saying Castro eats Whoppers, so Burger King sucks. They sell their juicy, beefy goodness and freedom fries with positive messages and images. Smiles served daily works!”
Aplikowski said that he hoped a revitalized GOP could achieve “total, crushing victory. The DFL would be filing for bankruptcy by 2012 and selling off their office furniture.” While that may not be possible, Aplikowski thought that at the very least, change would be good for the GOP.
“Throw the bums out,” said Aplikowski, adding that it was time for the GOP to “get what you lefty bloggers
would call a ‘hacktackular’ new start with things.”

Can you post the full transcript of the interview “The grass roots and the people on the [Republican] Central Committee who aren’t total zombies — and it’s a thin majority — finally see not only what a tool Carey is but what kind of snakes support him, and what a dismal mistake it was to support him in 2006.”
There are some pretty shocking statements in this interview for a Republican Senate District Chair to make. Could he have been taken out of context – especially in the statement above? Did he say anything about Minnesota Monitor in the interview?
Can you post the full text of the interview, so readers can decide on these issues for themselves?

Commenters at Shot in the Dark are spreading the same rumor about a Powerline blogger running for chair that Andy did.

Where on this blog has this chickenhawk backed off his comments? Per the comments on this post, Mr. Aplikowski appears to “have backed away from the comments he made to Jeff Fecke.”
Am I missing something, or this chickenhawk too chickensh*t to fess up on the blog where his comments appeared? Who cares what he posts in the safety of his own blog–let him show his bigoted face here. This is the same excuse we hear whenever any Rethuglican gets caught speaking when they thought the mic was off, or gets quoted when their ugly mouth is moving faster than their brain.
No surprise that this kind of scum attracts the support of the likes of Mitch Berg. Chickenhawks of a feather flock together.

Name-calling CHE, please keep the name-calling to a minimum. We ask our commenters from the anti-MinMon lobby to do the same, and it’s only fair to attempt civil discourse from both sides.

You gotta love this! Sucked in two dimwits for the price of one!

No honey, THIS is the money quote:
“I’ve written more about this on Lloydletta’s Nooz.”
Haha!
And this is the second (third? fourth?) time the Dumpster Queen has been ridden like a hobby horse by the MOB!
LOL!

Oh so wise Swiftee So Swiftee, Berg, Aplikowski, Learned Foot and Eckernet – and a few others got together and came up with this interview, eh?

It’s all well and good to say that Feckless and his ilk (that’d be you dear) are hapless bufoons.
But it’s way better to have you all prove it for us!
Seriously, a nine year old of average intelligence would have had the game up after the first exchange…but you boobs STILL don’t get it.
“I’m not sure what the GOP gains by one of its district chairs willfully misleading a reporter..”

What Are You Gaining? This is a joke? A Republican District Chair gives an interview that confirms the suspicion that Republicans are a bunch of retrograde sexist, racist, morons who don’t take their own “honor the troops” rhetoric seriously? What’s funny about that? Mr. Apilkowski’s remarks sound a lot like the standard talk-radio redneck mutterings that are making the rounds. Are we supposed to believe him when he says “NOT!”?
BTW, Swiftee, does this mean you now excuse Al Franken’s less-than-tolerant remarks because he was “just joking”?

Well, I can share the email string with Andy if he wants me to…. I’m not sure what the GOP gains by one of its district chairs willfully misleading a reporter, and would frankly question whether Andy is just backing quickly off of some of the statements he made. But the transcript is up, if anyone wants to see it.

The transcript is appalling – and racist Money quote:
I am a bit worried about your boy Obama though. He used to worship that Allah, and his middle-name is Hussein. Coincidence????
Those kind of people are nuts, and the last thing we need is another Muslim in DC, let alone the White house. Ellison is enough. It scares me to even think about what he is sending thru CAIR to bin Laden and Iran. I bet Obama would sign a new NATO-esque agreement with Syria and Iran and attack Europe and Israel.
Anyone but a Democrat I suppose would be just dandy. Unless Shrillary could shed about 50 pounds and drop the sourthern twang. Then, well, maybe. I would just love to see how Slick Willy sneaks ‘nappy headed hos’ into the Oval Office behind her back now.
Seriously, when is the last time you or your readers have seen them together? I am thinking it was his Library and Massage parlor opening. Maybe a funeral. Other than that, have they even been in the same frame of a picture?
EY: I’ve written more about this on Lloydletta’s Nooz.
Note, this is Eva Young – I’m not sure why sometimes your site has me logged in, and sometimes doesn’t. Anyway lloydletta2 = lloydletta.
