This is bizarre: The conservative pundit Michael Barone, a Fox News Channel habitue as well as the editor of the Almanac of American Politics, told attendees of a higher-education convention yesterday, and we quote:
“The liberal media attacked Sarah Palin because she did not abort her Down syndrome baby… They wanted her to kill that child. … I’m talking about my media colleagues with whom I’ve worked for 35 years.”
Politico reports that the remarks were roundly jeered by the audience, and that Barone claimed in a subsequent email that he “was attempting to be humorous and, as many in public do, went over the line.”

As the devoted and exceptional mother of 2, I would have to say that I did not want Sarah to have aborted her Downs Syndrome baby. I do admit that I wanted her to go home and take care of him, though. A special needs child can do very very well with the appropriate attention. And THAT is a calling in itself.

Really grotesque example of why conservatives shouldn’t try to be funny. They don’t get humor. I’m not saying he meant to be funny, but he thinks it’s plausible deniability that he was just trying to be funny. Only a hopelessly unfunny person could think there was humor to hide behind.
