Edwards: ‘The Best Way to Serve Our Troops is to End This War’

Saying citizens have a “huge and important responsibility” to help bring the Iraq War to an end, Democratic presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards called on his supporters to work over the Memorial Day weekend to bring the troops home.
“We have the power to speak up, to get involved, to get engaged, to take responsibility, and I believe our voices can be a powerful force to bring this war to an end,” said Edwards in a conference call Saturday morning.
“The best way to serve our troops is to end this war. We’re not waiting for someone else to do that, and we’re not waiting for the election.”
“We’re going to reclaim patriotism,” said Edwards, who added, “This is about something far more important than politics. This is about life and death.”
The call ended with a plug for Edwards’ anti-war site supportthetroopsendthewar.com, and a plea from Edwards for support for the cause.
“Wherever you are this Memorial Day — with friends, family, in a community gathering — I’m asking you to make sure that your voices are heard.”
