Statewide Smoking Ban Brings Relief to Mankato Area Conflict

The passage of the statewide smoking ban has brought a collective sigh of relief to both sides of the Minnesota River where it bends to the northeast in southern Minnesota. On the north side of the river is North Mankato, which has steadfastly resisted instituting a citywide smoking ban in restaurants and bars despite pressure from citizens, local physicians and nurses groups and the Mankato Area Smoke-free Coalition.

On the south side of the river is Mankato, a city that instituted a smoking ban

Triumph for the Nanny State Isn’t it wonderful to watch Private Property Rights smashed right before our eyes?

Pawlenty I certainly hope you both give Pawlenty the same amount of heat when he signs this bill.

I intend to This legislation violates the rights of any American that owns property. The governor should be ashamed of his stance in regard to this issue.

Property owners should be able to control what happens in their own establishments with minimal government intrusion. That is basic to American freedom.

An editor’s jpb is never done…….. The “sort of” has to do with a provision in its ordinance that permitted bars to allow smoking if they could prove a [minimum of a] 15 percent drop in business during an initial three-month nonsmoking trial period. “

“Fifteen bars and service organizations [proved that they had losses enough to qualify for the] exemption.”

What percentage of the total bars in existanance today do those 15 represent?
