While Sarah Palin’s turkey-pardon interview in front of a bird butcher is a definite contender, my hands-down favorite piece of political Thanksgiving news was George W. Bush’s dramatic 2003 fly-in to Baghdad, where — the Washington Post later revealed — he hoisted a plastic turkey up for the cameras and assembled troops to see. (It was so historic, an action figure was made to commemorate the occasion.) As our lame-duck president approaches his last Thanksgiving in office, here’s a look at presidential turkey pardons, courtesy The Huffington Post.

Not that it matters, but the Huffpo story is inaccurate – presidential turkey pardons only date from 1989 or so[1]. Also, there’s reason to believe the 2003 Bush turkey was genuine [2].
