Campaign Notebook 6/26: The Vlog

Bloggers aren’t just the new kings of text media — we do it all.  Vloggers — video bloggers — have made great inroads in the use of streaming video on the internet to get stories into the public mind.

A great recent example is the recent Gay Pride event in Minneapolis.  While text coverage is great, video taken by MN Stories provides a great visual angle to the story.

Other recent (and worthy) examples:

Minneapolitics’ interview with Robert Lilligren, Minneapolis Ward 6 City Councilman.

Watch for plenty more vlogging to be done in the 2008 election cycle, especially with the Republican National Convention coming to the Twin Cities.  Citizen-generated media — the written word, audio, video — is the newest and smartest force in politics today, and there are plenty of current examples of candidates and officials who are learning (at different rates) how to work with that force.
