The Al Franken for Senate campaign unveiled a new web ad today entitled “My Vote” that highlights the stories of Minnesota voters who say their absentee ballots were wrongly rejected. A companion Web site, CountMyVote, is designed to collect voter testimonials and comments on the vote count and recount in the Minnesota Senate election.

It’s sad that it’s necessary to run PR campaign, but for reasons that escape me Franken is getting most of the blame for whatever goes wrong. Even the strib cartoon today made it look like Franken is making up the 133 missing ballots.

The Strib. is a worthless piece of garbage as far as media goes. They are right-wing corporate Coleman all the way. of course they are going to paint the 133 votes that way. The truth is that the computer totals from election day match the number of signatures on the ballot rosters and they should be used as they better reflect what actually happened. To only use the ballots that are 133 votes short of the computer disenfranchises the 133 voters (primarily democratic) whose ballots were lost. If the wrongfully rejected absentees aren’t counted we have more disenfranchisement. The canvassing board needs to do the right thing and count all of them and let the pieces fall where they may.
