Ten days ago, we noted that the Minnesota Senate recount had extended the life of political lawn signs for Al Franken and U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman — even beyond the time limit set in some cities’ ordinances. But paid advertisements are also enjoying unexpected post-election currency. Not the ads on television, where most of the $30 million Senate contest was waged (those have mercifully vanished) but outdoor advertisements like this humble billboard for Coleman, tucked alongside a railroad overpass on Central Avenue NE in Minneapolis. It’s a National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund ad on a billboard owned by Clear Channel Outdoor; neither organization was answering its phones today to explain whether the sign’s message was intended to boost support for Coleman’s recount effort, or just left up because no one else has offered to pay for the space since Election Day.
Still sign season, cont.: Paid outdoor campaign ads linger along with recount
