Body of Child Recovered from River; Mother Still Missing

A second body recovered Thursday from the Mississippi River is thought to be that of Hana Mohamed, a 2-year-old Somali girl who was in a car with her mother when the 35W bridge collapsed last week.
Her mother, Sadiya Sahal, 23, is one of six people who are still missing.
According to a family friend, who didn’t want to be identified because he was not authorized to comment on the matter, authorities informed the family that they found remains believed to be the missing child, who’s the only known minor missing in the disaster.
Earlier Thursday, divers recovered the body of Peter Hausmann, a 47-year-old computer consultant from Rosemount.
Mohamed was riding with her mother, a nursing student, in the family’s Toyota Highlander when the bridge gave way and their vehicle plunged into the river.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office said Thursday evening that it can’t confirm if the recovered body is that of Mohamed. Because the recovered body was submerged under the water for days, it would take sometime to determine the identity of the body, the office said.
A prayer service for the family — and all other victims — is scheduled for Friday.
