As reported by USA Today, freshmen Democrats in Congress are raising huge sums of money for their re-election bids, much larger in the aggregate than their Republican counterparts.

According to the report, Tim Walz, D-Minn. is currently 11th nationally in fund raising with just over $500,000 in cash on hand.  This puts him behind just one freshman Republican, Vern Buchanan of Florida, who currently has $558,000 available.

The second-most prolific Republican freshman fund-raiser?  Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., whose total proceeds of more than $567,000 put her 18th overall among freshmen.  However, her burn rate is a good deal higher, and has left her with “only” $337,000 in cash on hand.

The Walz campaign was unable to respond to a request for comment, but their response will be updated here when it is received.
