A Facebook group is hoping three days of phonecalls to Norm Coleman’s campaign office may convince the former senator to give up his lawsuit and let Al Franken get started in the Senate. The “Norm’s Gotta Go Virtual Protest,” an email and call-in campaign begun yesterday and running through Friday, attempts to hold Coleman to his word: on Nov. 5, he said that if was trailing in the vote — as Franken then was — he would drop out. Now that the Canvassing Board has certified that Franken got more votes, he’s sticking with the fight.
Currently, 671 Facebook users have agreed to call in (it’s unclear whether the campaign is manning phones, however, as my call went to voicemail), but will it change Coleman’s mind? He has rescinded his Nov. 5 comment that he’d “step back” if behind in the vote, saying “that statement was a mistake.” And he has, rather famously, changed his mind on important issues before — but all indicators say he won’t back down.
