One Year Later, Planned Parenthood Pleased by Plan B

A year after it was approved for over-the-counter sale, Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota says Plan B is something to celebrate.

“Every woman deserves every chance to prevent unintended pregnancy,” said Sarah Stoesz, president and CEO of the regional Planned Parenthood, in a statement.

The organization vowed to continue to push for increased awareness of Plan B’s availability.  In the one year it has been available, Planned Parenthood has provided more than 1.2 million doses of the drug.

Plan B is a stronger dose of the same hormones found in typical hormonal birth-control pills.  Pro-life activists have opposed access to Plan B, claiming it is an abortifacient, but Plan B prevents pregnancy in the same manner as hormonal birth control.

Stoesz blasted pro-life organizations for their continued opposition to Plan B.

“Anti-family planning organizations have used scare tactics to launch public misinformation campaigns about EC, when the truth is that this is  a safe and effective way for women to prevent unintended pregnancy,” Stoesz said.

Of course anti-choicers oppose birth control and Plan B After all, both prevent unwanted pregnancies, and without unwanted pregnancies, there are fewer abortions. And with fewer abortions, there is less of a reason for the anti-choicers to exist. Fewer abortions means fewer places for them to conduct their “sidewalk counseling” by shrieking “murderer” at clinic patrons. Fewer bills to clog up the legislature and divide voters and hold legislators hostage to their insane demands. Why, if the number of abortions declined too far, it might even put them out of business. Then what would they do with all that time on their hands?
