Revenue > Daily Kos and Huffington Post seem to do okay traffic wise and I assume revenue-wise.

These are two very different things on the 'net. It is unreasonable to assume that a site with high traffic is able to profit from it. The revenue further has to be matched with the expenses to determine if a site is actually profitable.

It is reasonable to assume that no one is making money off of journalism on the 'net at this point. If someone is, they are keeping it to themselves.

Unfortunately I don't think this is the case "Under Joel's leadership, the Star & Tribune has come to be just as identifiable as the "Star & Sickle" to a very large percentage of the state's population.

"A dead tree publication can choose to ignore such criticism and survive for awhile, but a publication that lives on the internet cannot."

Daily Kos and Huffington Post seem to do okay traffic wise and I assume revenue-wise.

I find myself wondering, along with you, if Mr. Kramer has any actual interest in providing in-depth reporting and analysis; or if "in-depth" for him is synonymous with "very accepting of the liberal-left perspective."

Well done interview. However I think you missed a couple of very, very important points.

For instance, how will Joel overcome the "taint" (for lack of a better word) of having been identified with the far left in Minnesota politics?

Also, as I said earlier, I do give them credit for acknowledging where the money is flowing from (unlike this site for instance), how will the fact that many of the donations are coming from people who were also involved in prior lefty efforts led by Joel such as "Growth and Justice" and the ill fated,"Happy To Pay For A Better Minnesota" campaign play out when he is going to try his hand at publishing a source of serious news.

He's got an uphill battle for credibility in my opinion.

Under Joel's leadership, the Star & Tribune has come to be just as identifiable as the "Star & Sickle" to a very large percentage of the state's population.

A dead tree publication can choose to ignore such criticism and survive for awhile, but a publication that lives on the internet cannot.

Speaking for myself, I look forward to reading MinPost.com, but I have to say that I will not be surprised to see it relegated to the ranks of "lefty propaganda" websites.

This is a case however, that I would be pleased to be proved wrong about.

"Daily Kos and Huffington Post seem to do okay traffic wise" True, but no one takes either of those websites for anything other than what they are; left wing echo chambers.

If he is going to take on the lefty sites already out here for a share of their readership that's fine, but as I understood it, Joel is trying to launch a credible news source.

One can claim to be a serious news source, one can call their employees "reporters" or "journalists" or whatever they please.

But as evidenced by this very website (MinnesotaMonitor) for instance, thoughtful readers will "out" the truth very quickly and credibility is gone forever.

These are two very different things on the 'net. It is unreasonable to assume that a site with high traffic is able to profit from it. The revenue further has to be matched with the expenses to determine if a site is actually profitable.
