The departure of George W. Bush after eight years as president has sparked a flurry of artistic responses as many celebrate the end of an era — an era characterized by war, recession, civil rights abuses, natural disaster and torture, among other things.

Here are examples of how a few artists are saying goodbye to Bush. How will you say farewell to Bush? Let us know in the comments.

Never say “goodbye, farewell”…dream of things that could be:

The first official act by President Obama after the parades and the parties are over? Let it be the closing of Guantanamo, followed by the shipping the fencing, the razor wire, the interrogation rooms, the locked cells, the guard posts, the guard dogs to one acquired land base near Crawford Texas where soon one lonely occupant in an orange jumpsuit may be seen cutting brush within designated parameters.

What’s that old tune ” The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Texas”…sing it George and may you not be lonely long; joined soon by more residents from the past administration – the numbers too long to list here but by their foul deeds one surely knows them ?

First, let me say shame on you. He was our president, elected by the American people, (for better or worse). Probably the cornerstone of his presidency is the fact that we only had one terrorist attack on the United States. As far as closing Guantanamo, I bet you would be the first in line (screaming at the top of your lungs for vengeance) if you would have lost someone in the 9/11 attack. And make no mistake about it, radical Islamics are still out there, and are still a threat. Do I agree with all of President Bush’s policies, no, but I still have respect for the man who was our elected president; it’s easy to “judge” from your barcalounger and throw cliche sayings, but at least you have the security and freedom to sit in that chair.
Second, you, and many like you have pined all your hopes and dreams on President Obama, the savior of the “free” world. This on a man with no proven track record, and worse yet, what appears to be a limp grip on foreign policy. All I ever get from Obama is the feeling of “win one for the gipper” but no definite course of action. Let me rephrase that, no course of action that is realized by funds not whimsiclay created out of thin air.
I have a sinking feeling that in the days ahead this new president will be tested in ways that he does not expect. Will he have the metal to stand up to ridicule and naysayers? I guess we will all have to wait on that one….
