Franken-Coleman trial upended by judges’ ruling

The trial to determine the outcome of the U.S. Senate race was slated to start up again at 9 a.m. this morning. But the proceedings have been delayed by a significant snag.

Yesterday the three-judge panel hearing the case ruled that copies of ballot envelopes that Norm Coleman’s legal team intended to enter into evidence weren’t up to snuff. The problem? The envelopes had been written on by campaign staff or notes from local election officials had been redacted. If the Republican’s camp still intends to enter the envelopes as evidence they’ll now have to subpoena the originals from all 87 counties.

The ruling left Coleman’s lead trial attorney, Joe Friedberg, uncertain how to proceed. “We were not prepared to go forward with any other part of the case before next Tuesday,” he told the judges yesterday.

Initially proceedings were expected to be delayed for a half hour. But the trial is yet to re-convene.

What are those things sitting on Norms shoulders?

I’m betting they are holographs of Dick Cheney and Grover Norquist telling Norm what to do.

A Devil on both shoulders.

I am tired of this whole thing,,, my husband is laid off, the public utilities just raised our rates 150.00 a month and this election has gone on to long. petty petty petty…. frankly,,, throw out both candidates and lets have a new election with different candidates, I would go vote, even if it was in the middle of the day, or the night… just to be done with this nonsense. Its obvious neither candidate cares about Minnesota and whats best for us,, We have one senator right now and problems that need 4 senators to solve. I blame Normy more because he who has the pettiest face I have ever seen,, weak and whiney.. is the main one who is dragging this on…… not that franken impresses me, but he is less whiney…… oh that this could be over please

So, yeah, I guess we just discard the system and both candidates because Dana’s husband got laid off. That’s smart.

Dana, you’re out of your element here. Leave the political commentary to the grown-ups.

I am a grown up , I am 57, and I have an opinion and I am weary that this has drug on and on. You did not leave political commentary, You just insulted me, I hope that you feel better now. I am probably out of my element if this element is ignorant people who have nothing to say but insult others, that’s not my element, and frankly I question whether the system is working at this point, so perhaps discarding it is not such a bad idea. but again that’s my opinion and my perception. as is yours which I am loosely assuming is that you feel the system is worth keeping , but did not really make that clear being preoccupied with your snotty comment.
