Sen. Tom Daschle (WDCpix)
The New York Times reports that Sen. Tom Daschle is withdrawing his nomination as head of the Obama administration’s Health and Human Services department. The New York Times puts Daschle’s withdrawal in the context of the recent revelation that he failed to pay some $120,000 in taxes. The South Dakota Democrat says the challenges the country faces require “a leader who can operate with the full faith of Congress and the American people, and without distraction. Right now, I am not that leader, and will not be a distraction.”

Maybe we need a grand ‘confessional’; a public catharsis of sorts in Congress so no more surprises…whose paid up; who isn’t? Plus too, for all of the banking and Wall Street regulars who have been given the gift of bonuses and bogus bail-outs. Let them show their tax returns first and then decide who gets what and if any. Bail-outs? Let it be wail-outs this time around.
