RNC Gets Farked (and Other Media News)
Thursday, October 11, 2007 at 7:52 pm
Farking with the RNC logo: The Photoshoppers at Fark.com are having their way with the much-maligned logo for the Republican National Convention, to be held in the Twin Cities next year. From renditions that reference Sen. Larry Craig to versions that interpret the logo elephant’s wide stance as a pre-excretory posture, it ain’t pretty. (That’s my way of saying: NSFW.)
cPod wants your tunes: City Pages launches its second episode of cPod, its podcast, acknowledging that “we’ve heard your comments, your complaints, your criticisms. We’re implementing improvements as fast as possible.” First up, theme music. Aspiring musicians can submit a ditty for consideration, but as Minneapolis blogger and IT guy Aaron Landry implies in an email to City Pages (which he shared with Minnesota Monitor) the tune might not get as much play as it could. “[G]et someone that knows how to syndicate audio (aka podcasting) properly,” he suggests to CP editor Kevin Hoffman. “It’s kind of silly to call it a ‘Pod’ when you can’t put it on your ‘Pod.’”
The competition: The Echo Press in Alexandria, Minn., has a promotional podcast of its own. Unlike the flash-based (and therefore pretty awkward) cPod interface, the paper offers a simple mp3 container and, topping City Pages’ review of items in the current issue, a preview of the next day’s news.
Isn’t the State Department asking for it when it names its new blog “Dipnote“?
Nothing to see here: Mediation reads City Pages so you don’t have to.

cPod To Kevin Hoffman’s benefit, he did reply to me:
Believe me Aaron, that’s in the process. Unfortunately, it’s gonna take the tech guys a couple weeks to add the proper coding to our website.
And then pointed to an example that looks like they know what they’re doing.
Also, even though I’ve heard conflicting reports, it doesn’t seem like they have an in-house web guy right now.

Web Thanks for chiming in, Aaron. In answer to your question, yes we have hired a web editor, though it will be a week or three before he starts. Jeff Shaw is an Oregon native and multiple award winning journalist who lived in the Twin Cities for a year before taking a prestigious Fulbright to study in Okinawa. We’re looking forward to working with him.
