IMG_7102_2_2.jpgAfter an extensive national search Minnesota Monitor’s nonprofit parent, the Center for Independent Media, has hired veteran journalist Jefferson Morley as its National Editorial Director.

During 15 years at the Washington Post, Morley served as assistant editor for the Sunday Outlook section and online editor for world news, and he launched the popular World Opinion Roundup. He has magazine writing experience at The Nation and the New Republic, and recently completed a biography of CIA spy Winston Scott, which will be published next spring by University Press of Kansas. Morley will be charged with providing editorial oversight for the Center’s four state-based sites, including Minnesota Monitor, and its 40 journalists. He’ll also be spearheading the launch of a Washington, D.C., news site and managing its 10 reporters late this year.

“The Center’s national news network offers an exciting new model for building independent online journalism,” Morley said. “My goal is to combine old-fashioned fact gathering and fairness with attitude, and Internet-era values of interactivity and transparency.”
