New GOP Video: In case you haven’t heard, Franken screwed up his taxes
Friday, February 06, 2009 at 3:47 pm
The Minnesota GOP dropped a new web video today, linking Al Franken’s failure to properly pay taxes to Obama cabinet nominees like Timothy Geithner (now Treasury Secretary) and would’ve-been HHS secretary Tom Daschle. But it’s not clear who the video is aimed at influencing. The general election is long over and while the ad my foment irritation among voters, it’d have to influence some judges now — and it’s questionable whether it’d even do that. Suggesting the clips were edited by “some video intern,” Gawker points out that, “amusingly, the YouTube features Al’s fairly succint explanation of the tax problem: his accountant fucked up.”

Leave it to the GOP to call someone who paid $917,344 in taxes 2003-2006 a “tax cheat”. http://static.cbslocal.com/station/wcco/news/specialreports/realitycheck/08_0430_spu_realitycheck_alfrankentaxbreakdown_fromalfrankencampaign.pdf
Leave it to the GOP to distort the California tax issue. California failed to close Franken’s corporation there resulting in fines for failure to report the fact that he his corporation made no money.

Someone should tell them that the election is over.

It was apparent looking at Republican comments on news sites, letters to the editor, etc., that they refuse to give up the talking point that Franken cheated on his taxes. They know the story by now. They just hope others don’t. Of course, if we don’t counter it, it will become “common knowledge” that Franken cheated. I hate spending time countering it, but at least I know they’re spending more time repeating it.

So making a mistake on your taxes is grounds for exclusion from public office?
Whew! I guess that rules Sarah Palin out then, doesn’t it?

These Repugs are living in glass houses. Have you ever tried to file tax returns in multiple states? It’s a nightmare–I have a law degree and tons of experience but struggle nonetheless. No one is interested in them or their taxes, otherwise we’d be reading about them.

Just wondering–how did Norm Coleman treat his wife’s “salary” and his free suits for tax purposes? Did she pay taxes in MN and CA?
