Coleman Fund-raising Letter Says Franken Trying to ‘Reinvent Himself’

colemanSen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., sent a blistering letter to partisans Thursday asking them to donate money, because “America simply can’t take another Senator on the far fringes of the left, with folks like Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, and the Hollywood liberal crowd.”

Coleman singled out DFL challenger Al Franken, calling the former writer and talk show host “ultra liberal,” and said that “if elected, the venomous, deeply partisan Al Franken [liberals] know and love will come out on the floor of the U.S. Senate.”

“Franken is trying to clean up his act. Reinvent himself,” said Coleman.

The attack on Franken echoed attacks Coleman made in the 2002 race against then-Sen. Paul Wellstone, DFL-Minn., when Coleman excoriated Wellstone for breaking a pledge only to serve two terms.  Coleman suggested that Wellstone was inconsistent.frankenWellstone responded with footage from the 1996 DFL State Convention, where Norm Coleman proudly told the crowd, “Paul Wellstone is a Democrat, and I am a Democrat,” and he had come to “proclaim my support for President Bill Clinton and Sen. Paul Wellstone.” Coleman would switch parties less than a year later and run for governor as a Republican, losing in a three-way race to Reform Party candidate Jesse Ventura.

DFL spokesperson Kelly Schwinghammer attacked Coleman’s focus on Franken, saying, “It’s funny that Norm Coleman’s motto is ‘getting things done for Minnesota,” but after five years in the senate, he is not talking about a single thing that he has done for this state.”

The Franken campaign declined to comment on the letter, and the Coleman campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

When will Franken start reminding voters who’s married to a Hollywood starlet? “America simply can’t take another Senator on the far fringes of the left, with folks like Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Ted Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, and the Hollywood liberal crowd.”

Oh really, Norm?

Has anybody check in on Laurie Coleman these days? Last I heard, she lived in L.A. and was working in Hollywood. According to her Wikipedia entry, which I’m sure the GOP strives to keep accurate:

“Her acting credits include small roles in NBC’s miniseries Kingpin, a 2004 made-for-TV movie Homeland Security, the 2002 film 3 Days of Rain, the 1999 film The First of May and the 1998 made-for-TV movie A Chance of Snow. She also had a role in the Twin Cities production of The Vagina Monologues.

“In fall of 2004, she was featured in a photo spread for the Washington Post in which she appeared in boudoir-type photographs. In the interview for the photo-shoot, she said that she enjoys modeling, long walks on the beach, and quiet dinners in her home.

“According to her husband’s Personal Financial Disclosure (a document that U.S. Senators and candidates must fill out annually to disclose their financial interests), Laurie Coleman worked for Holster, Inc., a merchandising-supply company, in Los Angeles and Susan Bristol, Inc. in New York City in 2004 (see [1]).

“Coleman divides her time between Minnesota, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.”

Karl, Can you say ” I’m prejudiced” Showing a little bias there Karl???

Laurie Coleman works in Hollywood.

Karl thinks this is Hypocritcal on Norm’s part.

Are you saying anyone who works in hollywood must be a “hollywood liberal” from the far fringes of the left?  Or is it possible a conservative can work in Hollywood and/or the entertainment industry?

I suppose next your gonna suggest that Norm keep his comments to Franken’s significant other, rather than the candidate himself..Whoops, that’s your area of expertise, isnt it Karl.

Uh huh, those boudoir photos look mighty “conservative” The Vagina Monologues was a conservative, family-values stage production too, wasn’t it?

Look, Les, if Norm wants to throw around the ol “Hollywood liberal” epithet, it’s only fair to remind voters of Norm’s Hollywood wife and his Hollywood-style marriage. And I don’t think I’d be bringing up “significant others” if I were you either.
