Strange Bedfellows

They say that politics makes strange bedfellows, but what can one make of the strange alliances evident in the Vote Yes coalition? This is a group that includes the Sierra Club…and the Minnesota Petroleum Service…and Transit for Liveable Communities…and the Edina Chamber of Commerce?
Why do I suspect that all of those groups–not to mention the other 842 listed supporters–may just have different agendas and different visions of what a yes vote will mean?
Perhaps this is the best idea ever, and all 846 groups and cities are backing this because of its sheer wonder. Or perhaps every group thinks they’re going to come out the winner, depending on who wins the House of Representatives and a certain home on Summit Avenue come November.
Between now and Election Day, I’m going to take a look at some of these groups and what they think a yes vote means. But if in the interim anyone wants to tell me how, say, the Minnesota Beer Wholesalers Association stands to benefit from this–or why Minneapolis is on board as a supporter, but not St. Paul–I’m all ears.
