While Al Franken is paying a whopping six times as much as Norm Coleman in recount-related lawyers, both men are undoubtedly in need of cash. According to recent FEC records, Franken’s 596-page filing showed $660,923 spent on lawyers from Perkins Coie and Fredrikson & Byron during the reporting period. Coleman’s 394-page filing tallied $105,000 spent with Knaak and Kantrud and Dorsey & Whitney.

Today both candidates are heading to Washington — Franken to do things to “prepare him for the Senate,” and Coleman for, you got it, a fundraiser put on by the National Republican Senatorial Committee. (Franken had his own D.C. fundraiser, a high-ticket brunch, at the Willard Hotel Jan. 18.)
