palin-bachmann-pawlentyAlaska Gov. Sarah Palin will appear at this month’s Conservative Political Action Conference only via TV hookup, while the man she aced out for the 2008 GOP vice presidential nomination may still take the stage: Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been invited to speak at a morning session on the final day of the conference, scheduled for Feb. 26-28 in Washington, D.C. And the woman sometimes called Minnesota’s Sarah Palin (or vice versa), Republican U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, will serve as emcee on opening night.

That’s when Palin, who turns 45 today, had been penciled in as headline speaker. Her cancellation — which has fueled a blog-storm across the political spectrum — averted the galactic meltdown that was sure to happen had she and the similarly dynamic Bachmann physically shared the same stage. Palin also backed out on a speaking slot at the right-wing confab last year.
