Via MnPublius, we learn that Barack Obama has made his choice for drug czar — and it’s not former Minnesota congressman Jim Ramstad. The Seattle Times reports that Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske has accepted the position. As we reported in December, Ramstad had his sights set on a different post anyway: administrator of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Late last year, Sen. Edward Kennedy as well as Reps. Patrick Kennedy and Pete Stark — all Democrats — lobbied the Obama administration on the Republican’s behalf.

Ramstad is the perfect example of the Republican mindset. The Republican thinks that if it isn’t happening to him, it isn’t happening. Ramsted got addicted, so now he has sympathy for people with addictions. He never was poor, so he never had any sympathy for the poor.

Of course, since many of his Republican associates were never addicts, Ramstad could never get them to give a damn.

I still think that Ramstad would make a great administrator of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
