Gov Pawlenty needs to understand that the plant is what God gave us to use.
Synthetic drugs are not always the answer and can cause more harm then good.
As far as teenage boys growing pot ( that made me chuckle ) , what about the teenage boys stealing drugs out of their parents medicine cabinets that are far more dangerous then pot ?
My sister in-law is suffering from cancer and cannot eat unless she takes an addicting benzodiazepine which she'll need to take every day in order to acquire much needed nutrition.
Benzodiazepine's are one the most difficult drugs to quit much more so then heroin or crack!
She isn't getting much relief from the benzo poison and is wasting away.
My sister passed away from cancer and was struggling for nutrition as Marinol didn't work.
She needed MANY benzo's daily as after awhile one builds up tolerance thus everything becomes worse. If she survived she would had been in hell trying to get off the poison.
I miss her so very much as she was my only sister and needn't suffer as much as she did.
I feel the same about my sister in-law .
I myself have chronic insomnia where I cannot fall asleep AT ALL 24/7 w/out a bloody synthetic benzo or hypnotic. I've been juggling these horrid drugs and suffering w/the side effects which are making my life more miserable.
Mr.Pawlenty PLEASE WAKE UP !
Must we wait for YOU or someone YOU love to go through this hell ?

My letter to Tom Prichard at the Minnesota Family Council in response to his testimony before the legislature:

"Mr. Prichard,
I am writing you with respect to the MFC policy with regard to medical marijuana. I am a conservative Christian and I have attended church most of my life. I am college educated, have two adult children, and have worked as a chef for many years. I was born with a defect to my left foot that eventually led to a mass forming around my left ankle. This had to be removed surgically, and my ankle had to be fused. As well, I was in an accident that caused injury to my spine which necessitated my spine being fused in two places. The lack of mobility and my career choice has led to constant weight gain because it is very difficult to exercise consistently with so much pain. My doctor at MAPS has had me on various medicines over the years like Morphine, Dilaudid, Fentanyl, and Oxycontin. These are all powerful narcotics, which are extremely addictive, and debilitating. The pills can lead to abuse, so, most recently the doctor has wanted to put me on a Fentanyl transdermal patch, or he said, I could have a pain pump implanted. The patch has been in the news lately because some of them have failed catastrophically and led to the death of the patient using them. The pain pump is implanted surgically and delivers the narcotic directly into the spinal column and requires a port to inject the medicine into. Neither of these options is viable for me. I want off the narcotics, but every time that I try to wean myself off of them, the pain comes back worse than ever, and I experience cold sweats, nausea, vomiting, shaking, insomnia, and hallucinations: all to the extreme. Legislation that would allow me to medicate myself by smoking a small amount of Marijuana is before the Minnesota State legislature and you constantly lobby against it. I take exception with your characterization of the bill that it would allow anyone over 18 years of age to grow "pot." You are sensationalizing the issue, and acting as though this will give everyone access to Marijuana. That is absurd! I do not support legalization of Marijuana for the broader public, but I ask myself "why you are so adamant about denying me the ability to legally, safely, and cheaply procure, and use medical Marijuana?" Let's face it, if you want to buy "pot" it isn't that difficult, and I see addicts constantly manipulating doctors at the pain clinic. They don't even look like the rest of the patients, and are easy to spot, and that is for “legal“medication. My doctor has said that he would support my use of Marijuana as soon as the state legalizes its use medically, but my own conservative, Christian brethren are lobbying against it. I have prayed about this so much, and the only thing preventing me from using Marijuana is that it is illegal to do so under the current law, and the Bible says to obey the law of the land. This is pure insanity! I pray that the Minnesota Family Council will reconsider their stand on this issue, and relent to support it as a compassionate legal alternative to powerful narcotics, and surgical implantation of medical devices, to use by those with terminal illness, and chronic intractable pain among others. Until you can do that, I ask that you please remove me from your mailing list, and email list. Thank you for listening, and for your prayerful consideration of this matter. I have included all of my contact information so that you know I am a real person and not a troll, and I welcome any reasonable dialogue in regards to this matter. In Christ, David Copenhaver"

Minnesota has the choice of either spending $20,000 a year to lock up a medical marijuana user or collecting sales tax on the individual's purchase of this widely used product.
If it's grow-your-own, consider a $100 per year permit for a dozen plants.
It's time to put the criminal drug dealers out of business and let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards.

Pot is illegal because of racism and capitalism. Read Cannabis: A history. Whenever anything is denied from the public (or pushed on the public) just ask yourself, "who stands to make or lose money?" and that will tell you what the politicians will do, because the people with the money have the access to the government, and what they want is what will happen. That's the state of our nation today, like it or not.

This is a safe medicine and it WORKS! Don't muddy the waters with pro-legalization talk, -there is another time and place for that. This is about having compassion for your fellow humans and allowing them to use the medicine that they are their DOCTOR (no politicians) have deemed appropriate. Governor Pawlenty's claim that this will increase crime is ludicrous and lacking factual basis. If you want to ensure that those with debilitating medical conditions will continue to break the law and add to criminal enterprise, what better way to accomplish this than to force people to buy off the street??!! Read the legislation and how restrictive the list of conditions really is. It really saddens me that police unions would rather try to protect drug money budgets and that the Governor is more concerned with his career than helping the sick and dying. I impore people to contact Governor Pawlenty and let him know that he is not gaining any votes by taking a "tough on crime" approach toward the sick and dying. In fact, isn't this something that would make people second guess him and his motives? In a compassionate society, this wouldn't even be an issue. The people want this, Governor Pawlenty. Your ambitions for a national spotlight are very transparent. Take your own advice and use this as an opportunity to get back to representing the will of the people. My health, and the health of others, cannot afford to be cast aside again. Do the right thing!

Minnesota should absolutely be the next state to legalize medicinal marijuana! This completely non-addictive plant can be grown from the arctic circle to the antarctic circle, so how can we try to stop it? Nobody has EVER over-dosed on THC--cigarettes and alcohol can KILL you, but are offered to people as soon as they turn 18 or 21...If the country as a whole were to tax marijauana, think about the financial debt that we could eliminate? The canibus plant was used for over 80% of all textiles, ropes, military supplies, etc...just 100 years ago! There are substantial amounts of people that are experiencing major benefits from the use of medicinal marijuana, it just seems immoral to deny someone such relief from pain, nausea, and sleep loss. A police officer's job is to protect the peace, and keep citizens safe; marijuana does not jepordize this in any way. Our country has much more important things to incarcerate people for than marijuana possession. There are 1000's of rapists and murderers who don't have prison cells AVAILABALE to them simply because some other guy got caught with a bag of weed!?! This system has GOT to change.

The conservative arguments get weaker and more outlandish as time goes by. I look forward to their next salvo of inane and ridiculous statements. Perhaps they'll try to say that medical marijuana was a plot of the blue aliens in their spaceships to make people docile enough to buy more Cheetos and wear underpants on their heads... just like they did at the RNC private parties.

The opposition to medical marijuana has been reduced to extreme conjecture from the Minnessota Family Council, and conspiracy theory. Should anyone be surprised at this? They are opposing the introduction of a natural medicine that has been shown to effectively help suffering individuals from being available to them. If that isn't a complete lack of compassion for the sake of a single-minded goal, then I don't know what is.

What evidence do they have for their conspiracy theory that could stand up in court, and what evidence do they have that shows the introduction of marijuana to be a direct factor in the degradation of the family? Are there not far more pressing factors contributing to said degradation that are not only legal, but encouraged in the American lifestyle? Career mobility, socio-economic status, our need for instant gratification, and the lack of educated understanding of the familial constructs available to producing a functional family unit. Then again, what would I know? I'm just some obscure individual lost in the world of the web.

AMERICAN PUBLIC HEALTH ASSOCIATION ON MEDICAL CANNABIS/MARIJUANA

“[M]arijuana has an extremely wide acute margin of safety for use under medical supervision and cannot cause lethal reactions … [G]reater harm is caused by the legal consequences of its prohibition than possible risks of medicinal use."

-- American Public Health Association, Resolution #9513, "Access to Therapeutic Marijuana/Cannabis," 1995

The American Public Health Association (APHA) is the oldest and largest organization of public health professionals in the world. The APHA represents more than 50,000 members and has been effectively influencing policies and setting priorities in public health since 1872. I'm guessing the APHA knows a little something about medicine.
