Holder on race: America is ‘a nation of cowards’

“Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards,” said Attorney General Eric Holder today in an African-American History Month address at the Department of Justice.
“[T]his nation has still not come to grips with its racial past nor has it been willing to contemplate, in a truly meaningful way, the diverse future it is fated to have,” Holder said. ”To our detriment, this is typical …”
Holder acknowledged some interaction between people of different races in the workplace, but said that vanishes on weekends: “On Saturdays and Sundays, America in the year 2009 does not, in some ways, differ significantly from the country that existed some fifty years ago. This is truly sad.”

So, the government will now decide who my friends and neighbors can be based on their skin color. What if I have too many Hispanic friends? “I’m sorry, Juan. I need to have more black friends. Not your fault, but, the government said I had to…” “Oh no, Chen. You’ll have to move somewhere else. This house is designated as a Hispanic house.” Is this what we are becoming? The federal government is out of control. This isn’t a power enumerated by the constitution!

Where do you get the idea that anyone wants to force you to do anything? Deploring our de facto segregation is not a call for governmental action.
