And this is coming from a member of the postmodern, relativistic left that has left behind all notions of objective truth? Hey, maybe Ron has some common ground with some of us on the Right after all. Let's all agree to eschew any and all manipulation of the truth. Not to bear false witness is still a good maxim, and has been one of the pillars of our society for centuries. P.S. Someone from this new coalition should monitor the upcoming "Designing Obama" seminar. So was George W. Bush. When he says he is not afraid of the truth and he did nothing wrong, that is true in the alternative universe that he inhabits. The world is full of weak minded fools. In the US they were all rounded up in the 80's, mostly from the congregations of the former TV evangelists, and were promised the repeal of abortion laws in exchange for their single issue vote. They were steeped in the language of free market economics which was woven into a low taxes, small government, "gospel of prosperity" message. This message was marketed in the mega churches, NASCAR rallyes, monster truck events, the country music industry, talk radio shows, and all the other places these folks tend to frequent. It is part of the truth as they know it. It is a truth that is almost purely political. Gonzales, and most of the hard core Republican base, don't have an objective standard for truth. They are "people of faith". “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed”. They think that a belief in the laws of man is "quaint". If your truth doesn't spring directly from the "Word" then it isn't truth. That is why they can't accept a secular purpose for the Constitution or our government. These must be based on the Word as they interpret it or our laws won't be righteous. Activist Judges are those that don't adhere to what they believe to be the Word. If questioning Gonzales helps us to find out who the real Jim Jones figures are, then that will be a good thing regardless of whether Mr Gonzales himself is ever capable of sorting this out for himself.
