The Ember Reichgott Junge campaign is seeing a surge in volunteers during the evening hours before Primary Day. Campaign spokesperson Heather Faulkner says they were “amazed at the momentum” at campaign headquarters in Minneapolis Monday evening. Reichgott Junge is up against 3 prominent opponents for the top spot in tomorrow’s DFL primary for the 5th Congressional District seat vacated by retiring Congressman Martin Sabo. Faulkner said the campaign is seeing “volunteers coming out in droves.” The campaign credits some of the large volunteer turnout as a consequence of opponents use of negative advertising in the last few days of the campaign. “People who were on the fence likely got turned off by the negativity,” says Faulkner.

A former State Senator (DFL-Golden Valley) for 18 years, host of AM 950 Air America Minnesota’s “Women on the Move,” and leader in several local nonprofits including Greater Twin Cities United Way, Minneapolis Area Red Cross, and Minnesota Women’s Political Caucus, Ember Reichgott Junge has reason to be optimistic: A poll in July put her as the most favorable candidate, and her campaign has beaten the competition in fundraising.

In addition to Reichgott Junge, there are 3 other frontrunners in the 5th CD Primary: State Rep. Keith Ellison (DFL-Minneapolis), former Sabo Chief of Staff Mike Erlandson, and Minneapolis City Councilman Paul Ostrow (DFL-Minneapolis).

The campaign was ‘really excited’ and looking forward to a busy day tomorrow, and hopefully a busy two months after. Faulkner said of the campaign, “We’re on!”
