Tonight at a Midnight Madness Rally State Senator Becky Lourey was very optimistic about her chances of winning tomorrow’s DFL gubernatorial primary. Lourey is challenging Democrat-Farmer-Labor endorsed candidate for Governor, Attorney General Mike Hatch.
About 50 people came out to rally in St. Paul before heading out to lit drop Ward 4 in St. Paul and South Minneapolis. Lourey’s office was hectic but very enthusiastic and volunteers were preparing not just for the primary but for the next week as well.
Read MoreMany of the volunteers echoed the sentiments of Jess Wenstrom who is supporting Lourey because “she’s the only candidate with real democratic values.” Others pointed to Lourey as the only “peace candidate”.
Krista Trofka said, “Becky’s the only candidate that inspires people.”
“We have a chance to win tomorrow because we have strong grassroots activity,” said Lourey. She said she’s trying to focus her campaign on issues not personalities and has been taking every chance she can to get her message out.
Lourey focused on her grassroots strategy and said that if she wins in the primary “we will get national attention” and that she does have the support system in place to beat Republican endorsed incumbent Tim Pawlenty. “We started the state fair with 964 volunteers and now we have over 1,200, we are a grassroots campaign.”
Lourey said that if she loses she will support Hatch and expects Hatch to support her “I believe in unity”. She said she’s the only candidate who can beat Pawlenty. She stated that she would keep more support from people who might vote for Green Party Endorsee Ken Pentel or Independence Party candidate Peter Hutchinson because she has “a real kind of passion.”
