MPR Nabs PiPressers

Minnesota Public Radio seems to be beefing up its newsroom — with two new employees coming from the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Today, reporter Tim Nelson emailed friends to say he’s becoming the K-12 education reporter for 91.1 FM. Last week Mike Reszler, former senior editor at the PiPress, began work as Public Radio’s managing editor for online news, taking over for Bob Collins, who’ll be writing full-time for mpr.org.

Nelson’s email after the jump.

I’m dropping you a note to tell you that I am leaving the Pioneer Press. I will be going to work as a reporter for Minnesota Public Radio as of Jan. 2. I will be the K-12 education reporter for their 91.1 news station and statewide network. It’s a move I have been weighing for some time in light of the state of the newspaper industry and my abiding interest in trying something new.

I owe what success I have enjoyed at the Pioneer Press to people like you. You have been kind, generous and patient. Both I and Pioneer Press readers have benefited greatly from that. It is not clear yet who will take my seat or what will become of the various aspects of my current duties, like City Hall Scoop.

My new contact info will be available at http://minnesota.pub…  in January. Tune in, and, as always, consider becoming a sustaining member by calling 1-800-227-2811 or by clicking at minnesota.publicradio.org.

I’m sure our paths will continue to cross. It’s a small town and a smaller newsroom, so I will likely be coming back to my old haunts on occasion as a fill-in. And to those among you in the education field: Watch out. Here I come.
