Ridder Resigns

Update: Par Ridder has resigned from the Star Tribune after District Court Judge David Higgs dismissed the lawsuit against the Star Tribune, keeping the injunction against Ridder intact.
Anxious to continue his remarkable tenure as publisher of the Star Tribune, Par Ridder recently filed papers with the Minnesota Court of Appeals seeking to reverse an earlier ruling barring him from running the paper until September, 2008. Ridder was found to have caused “irreparable harm” to the Pioneer Press after being accused of taking files from his former employer.
Ridder’s appeal would seem to run contrary to Strib Chairman Chris Harte’s recent comments that Ridder is unlikely to return to the paper.
The Star Tribune also filed an appeal to a ruling that requires them to pay Pioneer Press’ attorney and legal fees from the case.

Gee, what a surprise Congrats to the Strib brain trust for successfully delaying the inevitable for 9 months, thereby creating a tremendous amount of ill will among both the staff and the community. Their brilliance should be enshrined as one of the most boneheaded business moves of 2007, if not the milenium so far.
